I truly believe that no matter how beautiful a digital piece of art is, it will never beat real ink/paint/charcoal on real paper/canvas. I believe this to be true both in the viewing and in the making.

It has really sparked so much in me to follow the entire process from sketching to cutting to inking up and printing with real tools and materials this week. They’re just simple, little block prints, but it’s been so good to shift gears a little.

The process for designing our socks has always been digital in nature (because of the nature of sock production), but then you get the socks and you can wear them and see the stitches, and that feels “real”. But, to be honest, the process to get there can feel like it’s lacking sometimes.

This week has reminded me that there are other ways to start, and even just to play, to ground how I do things. A happy reminder!
