Real is Rare We aim to provide insight into the backstory of local artisans, and their products. Most of the time, the story behind a product goes unnoticed.

Real is Rare was conceptualised by Matthew and myself, we’re two recent UCT grads and lifelong friends. Having grown up in South Africa, we have too often witnessed the struggle of local business owners, in reaching consumers and in simply being able to make ends meet. However, both of us believe in the ‘big power’ of small businesses. With this at the forefront of our minds and hearts, we hope to

rectify some of South Africa’s social and economic challenges. Real is Rare is a part-time venture, but one that both of us are equally and insatiably passionate about. We are directing our passion towards creating a website and social media platform through which local vendors can be catapulted into the view of those who would love to support their businesses be inspired by their stories.
