Mamabuti Clothing

Mamabuti Clothing Mamabuti Clothing started as a project between a mother and her son and, with your support, will grow to empower many other South African mothers (and fath

This project first and foremost birthed from my mother’s love for working with her hands and more specifically making clothing. I remember when we were young children my mother was still learning to make the most basic of clothing items, and we were her guinea pigs. They were funny looking shirts and sweatpants that served the purpose of clothing us and wrapping us with love rather than serving as

a piece of fashion or an enhancement of personal style. About twenty years have passed since those early days, time in which my mother has honed her skills as a professional seamstress and pattern maker through countless hours of apprenticeship

The project started out small, with my mother making me stretch pants and sleeveless shirts for yoga. We started with normal clean colours, but soon experimented with funky fabrics and prints hinting towards the psychedelic. We branched out and started developing other pieces of clothing, I would get an idea for something, or express a desire for a certain piece of clothing that I couldn’t find and we would embark on the mission of developing said piece. My mother and I would frequent fabric stores in search of fabric which catches the eye. It is then that we realised the importance of fabric, an item of clothing made with love and good fabric generally results in a masterpiece. She made me shorts, t-shirts, flowing white shirts in various styles, madiba-style shirts, semi-formal long pants, yoga mat bags, sling bags and she event crochet’d me a technicolour jersey with a matching pair of pants. The pursuit of creating new and interesting pieces continues and is something that brings endless joy to both our lives.

I'm not really one for selfies, nevermind photo collages, but when a new creation gets delivered from home, one simply must share it. Our first attempt at a funky dungaree. What do you think? We don't have anything available on the site yet, but feel free to mail me at [email protected] or phone my mom at 0845807972 to place an order for a unique one made to your liking! ❤️

Would like to send out a big shoutout to James Coetzee, our first customer, who not only purchased a fair amount of clothing, but also gave me a ton of advise on fixing our website! Thanks brother! Your clothes will be on their way soon!

I am very excited to finally launch this project between myself, Gerdus, and my mother, Petro. We produce and sell handmade bohemian clothing for men. Finally there is an alternative for my brothers from other mothers in South Africa!

You can view and purchase items directly from our page on Facebook or go to our official online store at www.mamabuticlothing.com. More items will be added in the next weeks.

Our ideal would be to avoid Facebook and our website altogether and have you deal directly with my mother, Petro Oosthuizen. You can call her and arrange a viewing at her home in Bellville, this way you get a real feel for what it is you are buying and you can avoid shipping costs!

Handmade bohemian menswear produced in South Africa by loving mothers.
