Every year we invite a class from The Crags Primary to the mill to design a kikoi.

This year there were 16. We pinned them up in the mill, asked visitors to vote, and collected over 600 votes. Now we’re down to eight and need your help with the final decision.

The winner will be woven on our looms and sold before Christmas, with all proceeds helping fund an additional teacher at The Crags Primary.

The Otter.

There are places that make you feel lucky to live where you do. The stretch of coastline between Storms River and Nature’s Valley is one of them.

Forest that runs almost to the sea. Rivers meeting the ocean. Cliffs, rocks, beaches and more steps than anyone cares to count.

For most of the year, the Otter Trail asks you to take five days over it. Once a year, people come from all over to try to do it in one.

This year, we made something for everyone who reached the other end. A custom Mungo kikoi, woven at our mill in Plettenberg Bay, for every finisher. And a special-colourway Itawuli towel for those who found their way onto the podium.

One of our own made it too. Shelby, from our marketing team, finished her first Otter.

Not a bad way to see the neighbourhood.

There’s something compelling about people who take an old way of doing things and make it their own. It’s an idea we relate to at Mungo, and one that sits at the heart of Ouzeri , chef-owner Nic Charalambous’ contemporary interpretation of the Cypriot food he grew up with. We visited him in Cape Town to talk about memory, making, and the pursuit of doing something well.

Based on the original film ‘Loom Body’, this collaborative exploration of movement and dance draws inspiration from the rhythms, machinery and cloth of the Mungo Mill.
