*Do not be hostile to anyone based on jealousy and hatred. Jealousy and hatred are evil deeds that lead a person away from faith.*

Karbala was one of the greatest tragedies in Islamic history. In 61 AH (680 CE), Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, refused to pledge allegiance to Yazid ibn Muawiyah because he believed the leadership of the Muslim Ummah should uphold justice and the teachings of Islam. As Hussain (RA) journeyed toward Kufa, he and his small group of family members and companions were intercepted by the forces of the Umayyad governor acting under Yazid’s authority.

Surrounded in the desert of Karbala, they were denied access to water and faced overwhelming numbers. Despite this, Imam Hussain (RA) refused to compromise his principles. On the 10th of Muharram, he, along with many members of his family and companions, was martyred.

Karbala was not a struggle for power or wealth. It was a stand against injustice and a sacrifice made to preserve truth, faith, and moral integrity. The martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) remains a lasting reminder that standing for what is right may require immense sacrific

_One of the sisters shared this reflection:_

_"I was married to a student of Islamic knowledge, yet he constantly reminded me of my illness and made me feel like a burden. That experience taught me one lesson:"_

*Never be deceived by titles, appearances, or reputation. Look at a person's character, for that is what you will live with every day.*

There are homes filled with oppression and misery despite an abundance of beards, Islamic texts, certificates, and titles. And there are homes filled with mercy, tranquillity, and kindness among ordinary Muslims who may never have studied advanced Islamic sciences, yet simply fear Allah and treat others well.

The title of _"Shaykh"_ will not lessen the pain of oppression. A long beard does not guarantee mercy, and *knowledge alone does not benefit others if it is not accompanied by good character.*

Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله said:

> *“If the seeker of knowledge does not display virtuous character and good manners, then his pursuit of knowledge is futile.”*

[شرح حلية طالب العلم، للشيخ محمد بن صالح العثيمين رحمه الله | ص ٨]

A man is not measured by what he knows, but by how he lives. And the real test of a person's religion is often found in the way they treat those under their care when no one is watching.

*_Anyone can speak about good character. The real test is living by it._*

The story of Prophet Yusuf (AS) reminds us that every hardship has a purpose written by Allah. From the darkness of the well to the honor of the palace, his journey teaches us that patience, faith and trust in Allah can turn the most difficult moments into beautiful blessings. Allah’s plan is always greater than what we can see.
