*CASTING ALL YOUR CARES (2)*

*1st Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.*

*Having seen that the word 'cares' can be exchanged for the word 'worry', today, we want to take a closer look at that term.*

WORRY - in simple terms, worry can be said to mean the exact opposite of what meditation is, that is, while to us as believers, meditation is to carefully and thoughtfully ponder on God's Word, often times accompanied with muttering these words to ourselves repeatedly to birth understanding and then consistent practise, worry is to exert this same effort or energy on life's issues, problems, pressures and/or demands such as an impending quit notice or eviction from a rented apartment, a rejection at a job interview or contract negotiation or even a termination on one's employment, a doctor's report that is synonymous to a doomsday pronouncement, creditors or loan sharks knocking and calling incessantly and the list goes on.

However, a careful consideration of this should inform us as well that worry or worrisome thoughts can be traced to the thoughts that we not only allow but spend quality time pondering on and muttering. As someone once said, "while we cannot determine or influence life's pressures that come at us, we can actually determine and influence our own response or reaction to these pressures". Also, another says "we cannot stop a bird from flying over our head but we can well stop the bird from building a nest on our head". Therefore, it is trite that the believer never loses sight of the fact that he is yet in charge of his mind or the thoughts that he allows to dominate his mind at every given point in time.

Let's hear Jesus on this.

Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Here we see Jesus readily refer to worry as 'taking thoughts'.

Therefore, to successfully deal with our cares or worries, will be to first of all deal with our thoughts and like Jesus teaches, refuse to take in or give thought or voice to our worries.

CONFESSION - I refuse to ponder on and mutter out or give voice to my worries, I rather ponder, mutter and voice out God's word.

*CASTING ALL YOUR CARES (1)*

*1st Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him;

CARES - This is a word that readily describes life's pressures that come to us all as men and can be interchangeably used with any of the following synonyms such as Worries, concerns, expectations, desires, plans, goals or ambitions. Cares therefore refer to things (personal or societal) that weigh heavily on our minds as necessities, often times as a product of legitimate desires to have or own the good things of life. They often could range from the need to or desire to succeed academically, to gaining financial independence or wealth, to having an excellent spouse, wonderful kids, landed properties (or at least, one's privately owned apartment), a well funded vacation, early retirement with many benefits and the list goes on and on.

However, as legitimate and rightful as it is to have desires for good things or to want to care for oneself or others that are dear to us, it so happens that many times, these desires (when not properly handled or managed) drive us and consumes us such that they eventually become cares or better still, worries. To some, the need to excel academically becomes a worrisome thought (maybe after failing an entrance exam or a first test in a major course) that degenerates further to the fear of failure in life generally; to some the need to break free from a background of want or poverty and gain financial freedom, independence or wealth overwhelms them to create a savings culture motivated by fear (such that they can hardly even give to meet the needs of others or their local church), they often become stingy, not willing to part with money other than for selfish reasons; to some the need to 'settle down' or get married, sometimes with rising pressures from family, friends and society, telling them that they are getting 'old', rush desperately for the next available man/woman, with little or no consideration for life after the wedding (which is really the marriage) and so on and so forth.

CAST - this is like what one does with a cloth, it literally implies that you put something on someone completely.

This implies therefore that when we consider these keywords in the light of scripture (with reference particularly to our main text), we'll see that we're admonished to completely cast our cares, worries or concerns, like a cloth on Jesus.

*CONFESSION: I acknowledge my God-given right as a man to desire the good things of life.
I however refuse to be overwhelmed by these desires and cast them all on Jesus for he cares for me.*

GOD IS NOT IN Heaven!!! (selah)

SINCE God created the heavens and the earth in the beginning as recorded by Genesis chapter 1v1 he could not have been in what he created, he must have been existing outside the heavens and earth.

NOTE: “the Bible calls God the immortality that dwells in unapproachable light which man will never see as recorded in 1 Timothy 6v16. If you say he dwells in heaven then you have to understand that if there was a day God created the heavens and the earth, the question then is: Where was He before that day?”

However, God must be where he is before he created the heavens and earth because “God says I am God I change not. Since God does not live in heaven, God did not create heaven for himself. Heaven was created for man.”

THE PERSON IN HEAVEN NOW IS THE MAN CHRIST JESUS. “God decided that he wants to be a family man. And he says as a family man, my family must know me. But as God, they can’t know me. So God sat down and walked out of God. God looked at God. The Lord said to my Lord, (the pre-incarnate said to the incarnate) you go and I will wait here. God was talking to himself.”

He explained further that “the other God came into the womb of a woman. The first birth of Jesus was not an actual birth in the real sense of birth. It was manifestation of God (not in heaven, but where he was before heaven was created). That was why Paul talking to Timothy in 1 Timothy 3v16, said that great is the MYSTERY of Godliness that GOD IS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH. So the first birth of Christ was the APPEARANCE OF GOD IN THE HUMAN form.”

*WHERE DOES GOD LIVE?*
Some say God lives in heaven.
I ask, where was He before He made heaven?
God did not make heaven for Himself.
He didn't need it.
Both heaven and earth were made for man.
Some say He used to live in the temple and that when Jesus died, He left the temple when the curtain into the most holy place was torn apart from top to bottom.
Ah no!
God was NEVER in the temple.
The curtain tore open to prove that He was NEVER there.
God told David his son would build him a house. David assumed God was referring to Solomon.
2 Chronicles 6:9
Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
But in reality God was referring to Jesus, not Solomon.
So when Solomon built it, he knew what he built couldn't be what God was talking about.
How could God live in a house made with sand, bricks and wood?
1 Kings 8:27
But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?
Both Stephen and Paul said as much
Acts 7:48
Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,
Acts 17:24
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
God's house was not the temple then and it's not your church building today.
The masterpiece of archetectural configuration that we build today as places of worship, we build them for ourselves not for God.
Church building projects are not necessarily God's building project.
God's building project is in men, not in things.
1 Corinthians 3:9
For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
See what Jesus was accused of
Mark 14:58
We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
The accusation was true.
Jesus is the one who built God a house by His death, burial and resurrection.
God has no other house except the one Jesus built Him.
God's house is in born again men.
God's house is the new creation.
God's house today is you and I.
This is where God will live forever.
The temple Solomon built was so beautiful and exquisitely furnished, it was a wonder of the then world.
But God had no pleasure in all that.
God is comfortable to dwell only in the man who believes in Jesus.
Ephesians 2:22
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Habitation is from habitat. It is one's home and place of comfort. The only place where a living thing can have full expression.
This is what Christ has made us - God's Habitat.
2 Corinthians 6:16..for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Now say this with me
I AM THE TEMPLE OF ALMIGHTY GOD
I AM GOD'S HOME
I AM GOD'S HABITATION
IT IS GOD'S PLEASURE TO LIVE IN ME
THEREFORE EVERYWHERE I GO GOD GOES

*THE BELIEVERS’ PRAYERS*

*EPHESIANS 1:16-17*
*Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: (KJV)*

Prayers in different forms. Prayers are not only prayed by Christians alone. Almost every religious group pray. They engage the power of the supernatural for their desires to be met. Therefore, it is not all results of
prayers are answered by God. Prayers that are answered by God are prayers offered within the parameters of God’s character or proper scriptural interpretation. Unfortunately, some believers who are ignorant about God’s word use the results of their
prayers to validate the operations of God. To them, as long as they mentioned God or Jesus in the
prayers and had the intended results, it must be God’s power in operation. If they prayed in the name of Jesus to kill or curse somebody and it happened, it must be God who killed or cursed. God’s power can only function within the parameters of his word or character. Any other power is not of God but the engagement of the power of darkness by an ignorant believer.

Christianity is apostolic and for that matter, our message or prayers are already written or laid down for us in the epistles. The prayers laid down for us to be praying are what we call believers’ prayers. The believers had their burdens or desires which informed the kind of prayers they prayed. Our opening text is an example of prayers prayed by Apostle Paul. It was prayers for revelation knowledge of God’s word. The believers prayed about their spiritual growth. They prayed that they will come to the knowledge of their inheritance in Christ. They also prayed concerning the work of ministry which is preaching of the gospel. They prayed for boldness and utterance to be able to preach the gospel as they ought to preach it, (Colossians 4:3-4). They also prayed concerning the hazards and oppositions in doing ministry. They prayed for deliverance from wicked and unreasonable men. Though they faced much persecution from men, there was no prayer requesting their death.

The believer has his prayers that should be prayed. Prayers of worship and adorations, prayers of affirmations or confessions of God’s word. Prayers of petition on an issue. We have prayers exercising our authority in healing the sick or casting out devils. We have prayers exercising the power of God in us to cause circumstances and situations to be arranged to
favour God’s plan for our lives and work of ministry. We have prayers for men of God who are actively involved in the work of ministry. We have prayers for other believers concerning their spiritual growth and things concerning their natural lives. All these prayers are coined within proper bible interpretation or within the framework of God’s character in Christ Jesus. If Jesus did not pray it, if the apostles did not pray it and if it cannot be found in doctrinal
explanations of the epistles, we cannot pray it because we are likely to be in error.

*“DANGEROUS” PRAYERS*

*JAMES 5:16*
*Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (KJV)*

Prayer, is a means of putting to work the power of God in the believer. The power of God in the believer can only operate or function within the parameters of God’s word or character. Any demonstration of power or result of prayer which is not consistent with God’s character is not by the power of God. Such workings are the operations of the powers of darkness taking advantage of the permission of man to execute evil. Prayers that destroy, kill and curse men are not by the power of God. A true believer filled with the Holy Ghost can permit the power of darkness to function. The results of the prayer determine what power is in operation. Jesus who is our example and the foundational apostles who laid the apostolic pattern for us did not pray such wicked and unscriptural prayers.
Revengeful and judgmental prayers devoid of love are inconsistent with God’s character.

There is a certain kind of prayer some believers call “dangerous” prayers. They call it dangerous because of the way it is prayed, the time it is prayed, the words used and the results such prayers produce. There are books written to teach how to pray such dangerous prayers. It is important to note that it is not only Christians who offer prayers or engage the supernatural for results. Muslims pray, Buddhists pray, fe**sh priests pray, and occultists pray. All these religious groups offer prayers to their deities. They have records of getting the results of their prayers. The occultist will pray to kill people and cause evil to happen to his perceived enemy and it will happen as he prayed. When believers who are ignorant of God’s word begin to desire the results of the occult and the fe**sh, the automatic thing they do is to pray such occultic prayers which they termed as dangerous prayers.

Praying facing the moon, praying naked, praying breaking bottles, burning candles and incense at a particular period of the day or night. Praying with a specific colour of cloth tied on your head or waist. Praying and reciting specific words of judgment and death on an enemy are all not patterns laid down for us by the apostles. Engaging supernatural beings and dead people in prayers, and engaging celestial bodies and aquatic creatures in prayers are all not Christian ways of praying. From our opening text, prayer is powerful because of who you are in Christ. the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. We don’t do anything to make our prayers dangerous. The apostles did not teach or prayed such dangerous prayers, such dangerous prayers are importations from the occult. The believer must run away from such an unscriptural pattern of dangerous prayers. The power behind the results of such dangerous prayers is not of God.

*GAIN IS NOT GODLINESS*

*1Timothy 6: 5*
*Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. (KJV)*

There are some teachings or mindsets people have, that the more you serve God or the more you grow in Christ, the more materially rich God makes you. Therefore, to such ones, material prosperity is a sign that you are living a better Christian life or growing spiritually in Christ. Does it then imply that if one is not materially rich, then it is a sign that he is not growing in Christ?

This “gain is godliness” doctrine makes believers more materialistic minded. Their desire, prayer and meditations are to make God help them to make money so that they can also have the evidence that they are blessed of God and that God has honoured their spirituality. Equating material prosperity to spiritual growth is great error.

Apostle Paul is telling us from our opening text that such teaching or mindset is wrong and that we ought to withdraw ourselves from men who preach such things. There is nothing wrong having the desire to be materially rich but it is wrong when we mistaken possessing those things as signs of spiritual growth. Godliness with contentment is great gain. Christianity with contentment is great gain. Gain is in contentment not in how much you have.

*THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER*

*LUKE 8:11*
*“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. (NIV)*

It is said that when a bible text is wrongly interpreted, a major truth is lost. This means that whenever a bible text is given the wrong interpretation to mean anything apart from what the author intends his audience to have, the right message which was communicated by the author is lost. Whenever two pastors are giving different interpretations to a bible text, it is either one of them is lying or both are lying. A bible text can never mean today what it never meant when it was first written by the author. There is nothing like “This is how I see it” or “my personal revelation”. In learning how to interpret the parables of Jesus, The message or lesson being communicated is what we teach using the mode of communication used by Jesus. We don’t do exegesis or build doctrine on the mode of communication. The facts and
fictions were the modes used to communicate the message. Most time Jesus ended the parables with the interpretation or the message being communicated.

When the message communicated or the interpretation of the parable is obvious, it will be immoral to deduce your own interpretation apart from what was given by Jesus. From the parable of the Sower in our opening text, Jesus extensively gave the interpretation of the parable. He said that Luke 8:11-15 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing, they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop”.

This means that we cannot interpret the seed to be money or an offering in church. We cannot interpret the soil to mean something else apart from what
Jesus said. The temptation is that most times we find situations that may appear to fit the parable and we divert the parable to teach or build human
philosophy around the parable. The audience of a parable is also very helpful in interpreting it. Jesus spoke to the multitude about the attitude or the heart by which they receive the word. Immediately we miss the lesson being communicated by Jesus and use the parable to communicate any other message, we will be in error. Though what you may teach with the parable can be true, using the wrong scripture to teach something true is an abuse of the scriptures. Every scripture must be used for the intended purpose the author wrote it.

*GIVING IS SERVICE*

2nd Corinthians 8:1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
Vs 2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
Vs 3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;
Vs 4 Praying us with much in treaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
Vs 5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

The church at Jerusalem had needs and other churches in Asia had to gather support to send to Jerusalem. The church at Macedonia were in economic crisis but they were willing and full of Joy to give even in their lack. Paul was saying that this church demonstrated the Grace of God by giving even when they did not have enough.

Apostle Paul commended their generosity, how they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to serve the brethren who were in need with their substance.

The grace of God enables a man to give irrespective of his financial situation.

The scriptures do not teach to give only when a man has enough but to give freely and willingly as he has prospered.

Jesus commended a widow who gave all she had.

Mark 12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
Vs 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
Vs 43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

It takes consecration of the heart to give in lack. When a man is not consecrated to the Lord, giving becomes burden, rather than a lifestyle.

Giving ought to be a lifestyle, it is first of all service to God. In giving, you give yourself to the Lord and to his church. Giving is therefore, a culture of those consecrated to the service of God.

CONFESSION: I give myself to the lord and to his church, my financial situation does not determine how I give.

*THE SPIRIT IN YOU*

*Galatians 4:6*
*And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. (KJV)*

A man becomes born again by believing in the death, burial, resurrection of Jesus Christ. To be born again is to be born of the Spirit. To be born of the Spirit means the believer is brought forth and recreated by the Spirit. So, the Spirit in the believer is exactly the same Spirit of God (called God).

God is a Spirit. Therefore, our birth as believers is in the nature and character of God. So the believer is a spiritual being. What makes the believer a child of God, is the indwelling of the Spirit of God. The physical body help us to relate with the natural but we must be conscious of who and what we are made of, we are born of the spirit.

Our opening text makes it clear, the residential place of the Spirit of God is in the believer. The believer is the house of God. As believers we are the children of God because we have his Spirit in us and that is what makes us the New creation. God is our Father because we came from him. His DNA in us is his Spirit that indwells us. There is no distance or barrier between the believer and God.

*MONEY IS NOT EVIL*

*1TIMOTHY 6:10*
*For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (KJV)*

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is not a means of making money or making it in life. The preaching of the gospel is not a motivational message for business or financial success. Material success is available for all men irrespective of their faith in Christ. God does not hinder anybody from being materially rich or making it in life because the person is not a believer. God loves all men and made material prosperity a possibility before Jesus came to die. There are things in life that God’s goodness took care of it before Jesus came to save us from sin. One of such is material prosperity. Faith in Christ automatically saves a man from sin and grants him eternal life. Faith in Christ does not automatically save you from poverty and makes you financially rich. To be rich is based on personal decisions and choices you make as a man loved by God but not as a believer.

It is important to note that being rich is not evil or sinful. Being rich, living in a luxurious environment, driving expensive cars, flying private jets, dressing fashionably, and looking good with expensive perfume and attachments are not evil or sinful. Our opening text is not saying money is evil. It says the love of money. We must also take note of the context of the use of the phrase “love of money”. This is because nobody hates money. Money is good and sweet. All of us love to be rich and live a comfortable life. It is never sinful to desire to be rich and wealthy. Never despise the importance of money. Don’t see rich people as carnal and sinful. Not all rich people get their money through evil and wicked means. You can be genuinely rich and remain a strong and fruitful believer without any compromise of the faith.

Looking at the opening text carefully, you will notice that the context of the discussion is covetousness. Love of money is an attitude of covetousness towards money. Lack of contentment, greed and covetousness can cause you to twist the message of Christ and use every evil means to get rich. Paul was saying that many people have erred from the faith which is erring from the correct doctrine of Christ to the materialistic gospel. Some also have got themselves tempted and led astray into destruction because of the greed and covetousness to get rich. Apostle Paul told Timothy in verse 6 that “But godliness with contentment is great gain”. As believers, as much as getting rich is not evil, we must not be covetous and greedy towards money. We must pursue our quest to get rich with an attitude of godliness with contentment.

*PHILOSOPHY AND VAIN DECEIT*

Colossians 2:8
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (KJV)

In Christianity, what is taught is very important. The fact that a gathering of people bears the name church does not mean it is a church. It is the teaching taught in the gathering that defines it as a church belonging to Christ or something else. Bearing the title pastor, apostle etc. does not make you one, it is what you teach that matters.

From the opening text, believers are warned to stay away from people who preach philosophy (human theories) and vain deceit (empty lies for selfish gain). Such teachings focus more on the traditions of men and theories of the world. These kinds of teachings have the ability to change your focus as a believer. Teaching business principles, Jewish theories, selling anointing oil, cannot be what we are called to believe and preach.

The purpose of the church is preaching and teaching Christ. The ministry and the message is Christ Jesus alone and what he has done, and that is the truth we stand for. All the activities of the church should be centered on Christ.
