To the women who show up, put in the laps, organise events, cheer poolside and bring so much heart to the pool: this weekend is for you πŸ’™

We wanted to celebrate the incredible women in our community with something special. So, today through Monday, we’re packing a surprise gift into every single Spurt order that leaves our doors.

Whether you're swapping out your trusty goggles or grabbing a fresh suit for the season, we're dropping a little extra joy into your package before it ships as our way of saying thank you.

Take time to celebrate yourselves this weekend. (And if you happen to need new gear, we’ve got your bonus sorted). ✨

How do you handle a heavy surf?

For Tip #11, breaks down how to read the waves and clear the backline.

Getting past the breakers can look daunting when the waves pick up, but the secret is timing, not force. Scan the horizon, find where that last wave is breaking, and wait for your moment. When you see a lull in the sets, put your head down and commit.

If a wave is about to break directly over you, dive deep toward the bottom to let it pass over you. If you do get dumped? Don't panic. You are buoyant. Trust that you'll surface, take a breath, and look for the next gap.

answers one of the most common questions in open water: what do I do with my kick?

You don’t need a massive, exhausting kick. In the ocean, your legs are primarily there for balance and rhythm. A simple, relaxed two-beat kick keeps your body aligned without draining your tank.

Save the power for when you need to pick up the pace.

How to use a rip current to your advantage.

For Tip #4, Sarah Ferguson - Endurance Athlete tackles the ocean’s most misunderstood feature: rip currents.

The first rule is observation. Look for the signs before you get in: bubbly, choppy water, or unusual ripples. If you find yourself in one, the instinct is to panic and swim against it. Don't.

Let it take you out. Once the pull subsides, swim parallel to the shore, then make your way back in. In fact, seasoned swimmers use rips to their advantage as a free ride out past the surf line during a race.

Respect the current, stay calm, and use it to your favour.
