“I want her to have a ballerina room… but I don’t want to redesign it in 3 years.”

This is where designing a child’s room gets interesting...

The goal isn’t to avoid the things your child loves right now. It’s to design the room so those things can change.

A 3-year-old might be obsessed with ballerinas today.

In a few years, it might be animals.
Then art.
Then something you’ve never heard of before. 😂

So instead of designing the entire room around the theme, we built the room around her.

🩰 The ballerina details bring her current world into the room.
🤍 The base of the room stays calm and timeless.
📚 The reading nook gives her a space to explore and imagine.
🧸 The layout supports how she plays and moves now.

✨ The more permanent elements can grow with her.

That’s the difference between decorating a child’s room…and designing one.

You don’t have to say no to the pink.
You just need to know where to put it.

This is how we create kids’ rooms that feel right for them now, without starting from scratch every few years.

If you’re planning your child’s room and want to know what to make permanent and what to keep flexible, follow along. 🤍

A room designed to grow with her 🌸🦋🩰

Most moms start with a vision.

👉 You find the prettiest ballerina wallpaper.
👉 You save a few pink bedrooms on Pinterest.
👉 You find a bed you love.
👉 Then suddenly… you’re not sure how to make it all work together.

The room can easily become too themed.

The furniture doesn’t quite fit the layout.

There’s nowhere to read, play or get dressed independently and before you know it, you’ve spent money creating a room she’ll outgrow in a few years.

That’s exactly what we wanted to avoid with this ballerina bedroom.

A soft, playful space with gentle pinks, natural textures and carefully considered details, designed around how a little girl actually uses her room.

A cosy reading nook creates space for quiet time and imagination.
Defined areas for sleep, reading and play make the room easier to use and removable details mean the ballerina theme can change as she does.

At Mies Studio, every kids’ room starts with the plan before the pretty pieces, so you can see how the space will work before you start buying.

Inside the design packages:

Most moms design toddler rooms around what feels manageable to THEM…

more storage
less mess
keeping things tidy
trying to create “calm”

Toddlers experience rooms very differently from adults 🤍

At this stage, children process spaces through:
• movement
• sensory input
• repetition
• exploration
• independence
• nervous system regulation

This is something many moms are never taught.

A toddler room is not just a “playroom.”

It becomes the environment your child moves in, regulates in, explores in, learns in and experiences daily life through during one of the busiest developmental stages.

Which is why thoughtful toddler design matters more than people realise.

Not from a perfection perspective, but from a support perspective.

When a toddler space is designed intentionally:
✅ movement feels easier
✅ overstimulation is reduced
✅ independence is encouraged
✅ routines flow more calmly
✅ the environment works WITH the child instead of constantly against them.

Sometimes what looks like “chaos” is actually a nervous system searching for regulation.

This is also one of the reasons we created the Room to Grow guide.

Not just to help moms decorate…
but to help them better understand what children actually NEED from their spaces during different developmental stages 🤍

Have you ever fallen in love with a bedroom idea on Pinterest...

😍 You save the bed.
😍 You save the wallpaper.
😍 You save the reading nook.
😍 You save the lighting.

And then think...

"How on earth am I going to make all of this work together?"

I've found that this is one of the biggest struggles moms have when designing their children's rooms.

They don't need more ideas.

They need someone to turn all those ideas into a room that actually works. 🤍

That's exactly what I'm doing with this little ballerina's room.

Her mom already had such a beautiful vision...

🩰 Ballerina
🎀 Pink & gingham
✨ Brass
🤍 Soft textures
📚 Reading nook

Now it's my job to turn that vision into a room that works for her.

That's where the floor plan comes in.

Because sometimes you don't need another Pinterest board...

You just need someone to make sense of all the ideas.
