THE WARTHOG AND ITS BURROW
Warthogs are highly diurnal meaning they are only active during the day and they will retreat into holes - usually the disused excavations of aardvark - before nightfall. On cold, wet or overcast days, warthogs come out of their burrows much later than usual. The more stable microclimate inside the burrow affords their naked bodies critical protection from the weather conditions. In summer they will also use burrows for shade during the extreme midday heat...

THAT night when a Leopard drank from a lodge's swimming pool...

Yikes!!!

Imagine our surprise when we found one of the meanest looking Leopards out there, Hukumuri, at Arathusa Lodge, drinking from the swimming pool.

After his quench he went to lie down on the patio and suddenly spotted his own reflection in the glass sliding door.

He got up, walked to the door and started to salivate and growl...

He then sniffed the glass and walked off...

I think he eventually got the idea that it was just his own scary face in the reflection of the glass. 🤣😂

What an absolutely insane sighting!

Where it all started...

If you've been following me for a while now, you will be well aware that Leopards are my favorite animal. There's not a lot of other animals and birds that will be able to distract me from these stunning animals.

Finding leopards can be quite a mission. When I first started my wildlife photography journey, Leopard sightings were few and far between. And far away as well!

Today I am sharing the sighting and photo that changed it all for me! We spent a week in the Kruger National Park, based in Shingwedzi, apparently a good spot for Leopards, but we did not see one during our whole stay!

After packing and leaving Shingwedzi, we headed to Phalaborwa and accepted our bad luck with these spotted cats. We were discussing the matter and as we came around a corner on the H14, this beauty was waiting for us in the road! We followed him for close to 15 minutes before he disappeared into the bush.

This was the moment that hooked me on Leopards. This is where it all began. This started my obsession, love and passion for these special cats.
