CARING FOR YOUR LINGERIE
Buying or receiving a luxurious undergarment is a right of passage of sorts for many women, especially around this time of year – hint hint, gentlemen. But those lace, silk and satin underpinnings require special care.
√ READ THE CARE LABEL
Not sure what a symbol means? Do a bit of research: An X over a black triangle, for instance, means to wash dark colours separately and only use non-chlorine bleach if necessary, while a basin with “30C” written on top means a gentle-cycle machine wash with warm water is fine. If in doubt, don’t be afraid to call the store to ask.
√ LINE DRY YOUR BRAS AND PANTIES
Some garment care labels suggest placing a bra in a dryer at low temperatures, but it’s always best to let them line dry when possible
√ STORE LINGERIE CAREFULLY
Like the rest of the clothes in your closet, your underpinnings should be stored properly, too. If possible, hang slips on padded hangers to avoid creasing, and lay bras flat to let the cups sit naturally contour cups in particular should not be folded into each other as this may cause creasing. If creasing does occur, a light steam over the cups will help.” Use an actual steamer, though – an iron is too hot and difficult to navigate around rounded cups.
