We’re thrilled to announce that Dokter and Misses () is the furniture sponsor of this year’s Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online) — with a selection of their pieces available for sale across the weekend.

Founded in Johannesburg in 2007, Dokter and Misses makes sculptural furniture and lighting that moves beyond function into feeling, weaving industrial precision with human intuition. Each piece carries traces of multiple lineages: industrial salvage, folk craft, surrealism and pop.

Très Nagual () brings small-batch natural perfumery and home products from Cape Point, with fynbos and ocean air in every blend. Wax Lyrical’s () hand-designed stackable candles are functional objets.

Something Good Studio’s () artist-designed blankets and textiles are made slowly, in small runs, from natural fibres, and Salabim’s () doorstops bring texture and colour to any room.

At this year’s Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online), we spotlight fashion designers from South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana whose work is slowly made, considered and crafted with intention.

Mors Design’s () vibrant jerseys and bonnets are hand-knitted from ethically sourced Karoo mohair in small batches by women in local communities, and Lagos-based kkerelé’s () leather footwear rejects gendered symmetry through bold forms.

NAOSERATI () explores gender, art and sexuality through a distinctly South African lens, and Clatural’s () Ghanaian wearable art is crafted entirely from textile waste by a 100% woman-owned social enterprise.

Contemporary African beadwork studio The Herd (.studio) will take over one of three Design Alcoves during the Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online) this month.

Drawing from Indigenous knowledge systems, the studio moves beyond preservation toward reinterpretation, shaping beadwork into contemporary objects that hold presence across art, design, and cultural space. Form, pattern, and colour are approached as carriers of meaning, allowing each work to operate as both object and narrative.

Two new collaborations make their debut at the Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online) next week.

Stripped Editions () and Abantu in Africa () launch the Sisonke Koppie chair, upholstered in Thandazani Nofingxana’s Sisonke print, a textile rooted in the idea of the
‘gathering cloth’, and brought to life by master upholsterer Gavin Thomas, who has restored pieces by the likes of Finn Juhl, Verner Panton and Charles and Ray Eames.

Weylandts () and Fieldbar (.co) present the limited-edition Espresso Martini collection, a bespoke espresso colourway paired with a handcrafted Weylandts leather strap detail.

At this year’s Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online), Project Dyad (), whose name speaks to balance: light and dark, soft and structured, bold and understated, will exhibit their latest items. Dyad’s leather bags and accessories are handcrafted with care in-house by a small team of artisans, and each piece is designed to evolve with time and wear and the interplay of shape, line and colour.

Athena A () will showcase their handcrafted brass and cow horn jewellery that draws on Roman and Greek mythology, with each piece named after a goddess and made to be worn every day for years.

Joinery (), founded by Cape Winelands sisters Natalie and Kim Ellis, will have their colourful items available, turning recycled plastic bottles into considered travel accessories and bags.

And with their triangular knotted shape, Margot Molyneux’s () oversized handmade handbags are the perfect accompaniment for daily life.

Meet some of the makers at this year’s Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online), a group of designers who start with material and process.

Clay moulded and glazed by Bumba Souled Ceramics (), handcrafted jewellery by Umbral (), mohair slippers and upcycled timber stools from MakeSpace (), woven garments from Lesotho-based Falla Studios (), and 3D-printed lamps and clocks from lighting brand Hoi P’loy ().

Behind every object at the Design Showcase is a decision about process — what to make it from, how to shape it, what to leave visible and what to refine away.

Returning to our Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online) later this month, ethical jewellery atelier Pichulik () will launch the To Move collection, the second volume in a limited-edition series of artisanal bags that launched in Cape Town earlier this year.

Drawing on the ancestral lineage of rope knotting, crochet and weaving, techniques that have long carried feminine knowledge and domestic craft, Pichulik’s latest collection turns toward the rhythm of transformation.

Cape Cobra Leathercraft () makes its Latitudes debut, collaborating with Pichulik to create a unique exhibition in one of our three Design Alcoves.

Cape Cobra Leathercraft is a third-generation, women-led family business dedicated to handcrafting luxury handbags and accessories from sustainably sourced specialty leathers. From the ethical sourcing of Nile crocodile and ostrich leathers to the intricate details in every stitch, Cape Cobra pieces are made to endure and become heirlooms that transcend trends and celebrate Africa’s artisan heritage.

Opened as a pop up for Design Week South Africa, Daily (.stor) furniture has remained in their 27 Boxes store () , a space that elegantly showcases the brand’s design-led products.

Setting out to design and manufacture durable products – that are designed to last, founder Joey Khuvutlu () makes practical objects that solve the problems for our everyday lives.

Speaking to his the elegant soft lines of his designs, Joey told Dezeen (), “With most indigenous African furniture – or in fact most Indigenous furniture around the world – you hardly see sharp corners because sharp corners only come in when you start to use machines.”

Only opened in 2023, we’re looking forward to seeing what this young brand brings to the furniture scene next.
