This year’s edition takes the theme ‘The Shape of Us’, exploring how cultural identity, historical roots and future-thinking inform South African design.

Meet the team behind Design Week South Africa.

Since launching Design Week South Africa in 2024, we’ve had the privilege of connecting with an incredible network of local and international designers, practitioners, and curators whose insights have helped shape our vision.

These conversations reinforced a simple truth: meaningful design ecosystems are built through collaboration, dialogue, and shared knowledge.

To formalise this growing community, we created The Design Axis — a collective of industry leaders, thinkers, and creatives who help guide the evolution of Design Week South Africa. Bringing together diverse perspectives across disciplines and geographies, The Design Axis ensures our platform remains informed, inclusive, and connected to both local context and global design conversations.

More than an advisory body, The Design Axis represents our commitment to building a year-round design platform driven by collective intelligence, continuous exchange, and a shared vision for the future of design.

We’re thrilled to announce that Dokter and Misses () is the furniture sponsor of this year’s Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online) — with a selection of their pieces available for sale across the weekend.

At this year’s Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online) later this month, four brands celebrate the home as a sensory environment.

Très Nagual () brings small-batch natural perfumery and home products from Cape Point, with fynbos and ocean air in every blend. Wax Lyrical’s () hand-designed stackable candles are functional objets.

Something Good Studio’s () artist-designed blankets and textiles are made slowly, in small runs, from natural fibres, and Salabim’s () doorstops bring texture and colour to any room.

attention!’s (.sets) sculptural candle and incense holders transform space and mood through the perception of light and fragrances, with each piece crafted to enhance the atmosphere of a room.

Duck Duck Goose () is bringing its mobile T-Shirt Café to one of three Design Alcoves for the Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online) this May, and with it, the story of Good Good Good () — a brand that’s been making a single, considered garment from 100% Southern African-sourced cotton for over ten years, in a manufacturing facility that’s been running for thirty.

At this year’s Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online), we spotlight fashion designers from South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana whose work is slowly made, considered and crafted with intention.

Mors Design’s () vibrant jerseys and bonnets are hand-knitted from ethically sourced Karoo mohair in small batches by women in local communities, and Lagos-based kkerelé’s () leather footwear rejects gendered symmetry through bold forms.

NAOSERATI () explores gender, art and sexuality through a distinctly South African lens, and Clatural’s () Ghanaian wearable art is crafted entirely from textile waste by a 100% woman-owned social enterprise.

Contemporary African beadwork studio The Herd (.studio) will take over one of three Design Alcoves during the Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online) this month.

Drawing from Indigenous knowledge systems, the studio moves beyond preservation toward reinterpretation, shaping beadwork into contemporary objects that hold presence across art, design, and cultural space. Form, pattern, and colour are approached as carriers of meaning, allowing each work to operate as both object and narrative.

Two new collaborations make their debut at the Design Showcase at RMB Latitudes Art Fair (.online) next week.

Stripped Editions () and Abantu in Africa () launch the Sisonke Koppie chair, upholstered in Thandazani Nofingxana’s Sisonke print, a textile rooted in the idea of the
‘gathering cloth’, and brought to life by master upholsterer Gavin Thomas, who has restored pieces by the likes of Finn Juhl, Verner Panton and Charles and Ray Eames.

Weylandts () and Fieldbar (.co) present the limited-edition Espresso Martini collection, a bespoke espresso colourway paired with a handcrafted Weylandts leather strap detail.
