🌊 Sensory Tray - Ocean Life 🐠
Sand, colored water, pretty stones, grass for seaweed and we gathered all the fish toys we could find 🐳

Sensory Tray are a great way to have fun and learn about animals and learn new words (what they eat, how they live ect) & ecosystems🐟

It is great to include the kids in the making (pouring, transferring ect.) for fine motors skills and brainstorm together what to put in the tray for creativity

Land, Water and Air 🌍
This was a little reminder lesson about Planet Earth. I invited my 4 years old daughter to gather the different elements in littles cups (she blew in the cup to fill it with air πŸ™‚) and then she made her own planet earth on a polyester ball with paint and sand.

We had not used our DIY Montessori sand globe for a while, so it was a great way to refresh our knowledge before studying the continents.

🌸 Flower Study 🌸

Today we picked flowers from our garden to study them πŸ”
We talked about their role to grow fruits and pollinisation 🐝
We then compared real flowers to our Montessori Flower Puzzle to identify the different parts πŸ”¬
Finally my daughter used the tracing sheet to draw and color the flower ✏️
I love that she had the idea to add the pollen on the stamens and the butterfly πŸ¦‹

πŸ₯ Farm Sensory Tray πŸ– πŸ„ πŸ‘
Today we enjoyed a nice activity with my 2 girls (2 and 4 years old) that kept them busy all morning β˜€οΈ

They had a lot of fun and it was great to introduce new vocabulary for both. With my 4 years old we talked about what animals eat and need, why humans are farming them ect. And introduce new words such as omnivore/herbivore/carnivore, various type of grains.
With the little one we named all the animals and their babies. We also had fun imitating the sounds they made (our neighbors must have wondered what was happening 🀣)

πŸ₯ How we made it: The girls gathered grass, soil and dry leaves and we took some cereal, seeds and fruit peels. I gathered all the farm animals I could find in the house. The kids put everything together including a little mud bath for the pigs 🐷

β˜€οΈ THE BEST DIY PLAYDOUGHT β˜€οΈ

It was a play dough kind of day and now we have little play dough mice everywhere 🐭

I got the recipe from my daughters’ school and it is amazing: great texture, love how the colors mix and best of all, it stays nice for ever in an airtight container. I have made it few times already.
Here it goesπŸ₯„

Step 1: mix 1 cup floor and 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar (you can add spices for a cool smell) in a large bowl.

Step 2: put in a jug half cup of salt, with 1 tablespoon vegetal oil and few drops of food coloring. Add 1 cup of boiling water.

Step 3: combine all the ingredients together first with a spoon and then with your hands. Knead until you have a nice consistency.

And done!

A funny activity where the child goes around the house to find geometric shapes and match them with pictures.

My daughter then used our 3 Shapes puzzle to trace shapes and make drawings

Montessori Letter Work - 3 WAYS DIY
✏️ ✏️ ✏️
My had started learning letters at school so I wanted to continue at home (note, we are using cursive letters). β–ͺ️
Learning to write the letters from the start, in parallel with learning their sounds, helps the child to memorize as their hand is involved. It also gives the child the satisfaction to be able to write their first words faster, therefore motivating them to learn more letters :)
✏️ ✏️ ✏️
How we do it:

1. We have an alphabet on the wall to keep track of the process (the color dots are for me to remember which letters have been presented, practiced, mastered) βœ… Luce likes to pick which letters she wants to learn next and count how many letters she already knows
2. We have done our own sand paper letters with sand and glitter✨
3. Luce practices saying the sounds and learn the tracing movements of each letter with the sand paper letters (we do 3 at a time)
4. She practices tracing with her finger on the corn flour πŸ–
5. She practices tracing with a whiteboard marker using the letter under a plastic sheet πŸ–Š This is great as she can erase and redo as many times as she wants.

β–ͺ️
Learning to write is a long process which requires a lot of concentration and memorization from the child (and patience from the parents!). We always go back practicing previous letters and make sure she remembers them before introducing new ones. Let me know if you are teaching letters to your littles ones! ❀️

Last day before total lockdown 🏑

I really wanted to spend the day outside with the girls πŸ₯ 🐣 But obviously without putting ourselves or anyone else in danger 🦠
So we went to the beautiful parc at to eat our last lunch on the grass (we had ordered by phone to avoid contact).
We then enjoyed the wonderful vegetable garden and went to say bye to the chicken πŸ”
How did you spend your last day?

Today my daughter learned about flowers 🌸 - before they all disappear with autumn πŸ‚!
-
We first went on a flower hunt in the garden 🌻
She observed how the petals protect or expose the stamens.
We talked about the butterfly bringing the pollen from the stamens to the pistil - we actually had a little pollen tasting 🐝

Finally we looked at how the pollinated flowers transform into fruits πŸ“ and seeds

⭐️ We used the Flower Puzzle of our 3 Botany Puzzles at the end to review all the different parts and my daughter walked me through the whole Flower to Fruit story with her own words 😍
