Merwe Salt is a Cape Town based fashion brand that was born shortly after the 2 founders met. South African born and bred Deeva has a degree in fashion design and interned at Tom Ford. German-born Eva studied Fashion Management and worked 5 years internationally as a premium and luxury fashion buyer.
In Merwe Salt’s world, sexy is comfortable. The clothing is versatile as it is vibrant. Wearable comfort and casual elegance with an attention to detail describes the intention of the 2 friends as well as their emphasis on tailoring and an eclectic use of materials and custom developed fits. Both interested in anything beautiful and Lifestyle related, the two designers get their inspiration from architecture, interior design, street- fashion. Noticing at some point that it doesn’t need to be a massive wardrobe to be perfectly dressed for all sorts of occasions, their vision was to create statement pieces that are also essentials in a basic and timeless wardrobe to be hopefully carried over generations. In terms of ‘Who made my clothes,’ their vision is to support the local market by sourcing and manufacturing exclusively in South Africa. Their studio in Maitland houses a group of highly skilled sewing personnel, all production and design is made in-house, from designing each look to altering each garment to ensure the perfect fit. There is constant communication happening between the designers and CMT’s who are well-respected ladies, each with her own story. Strong South African Women that are giving a lot of input and adding their knowledge of each and every style to create a sustainable product made with love and care.
