SARI for Change

SARI for Change Conscious brand empowering women from the maker to the wearer through upcycling the vintage sari~ Welcome to the sacred economy.

The main core of our business is upcycling the Indian Sari to create one of a kind garments. With 85% of textiles thrown away in landfills; we found the sari to be an excellent resource as it is 6 metres of reusable fabric that could make seasonal garments with many functions and wears. All the sari is used in either garment or packaging creation and now newly introduced - home deco. At SFC it's a

bout using the resources we have around us to create products of evolving cultures & identities. Part of building our sacred economy we identified the need to teach a skill to unemployed women. We train from scratch, teaching clothing production, home industry and business skills. This allows for a greater earning potential as we shift these women from trainees to employees to suppliers running their own businesses. Not only are we solving a huge South African issue of unemployment but we also promote for our trainees to work in their own spaces in their townships so to reduce travel costs, early mornings and supervision of their children. We've found that this assists with better role modelling in communities whilst developing an entrepreneurial culture within our allocated training hubs. Often we see how the children assist their moms in product making, arousing a new curiosity and skill for them too. The seeds they plant today are definitely nurtured in familiar spaces to our trainees. We acknowledge that creating and seeding a mindset for entrepreneurs in the township takes time. At the onset our training is around cultivating this mind for self motivation and self accountability.

Craft. Culture. Objects. Interiors. Women.Memory. Collecting.

The spaces we inhabit shape the way we see the world.

A room filled with collected objects.
A wall holding stories.
A corner carrying memory.

The same can be said for the garments we choose to keep.

Designed to be lived with.
Collected slowly.
Returned to often.

[collected interiors, maximalist interiors, heritage craftsmanship, conscious living, South African design]

Pretty in pink.

Some colours carry a feeling.

Soft blush.
Rose tones.
Faded florals.
The kind of palette that feels both nostalgic and entirely new.

Crafted from reclaimed Banarasi textiles, the Noor Dress was designed for women who dress instinctively - collecting pieces that feel expressive, feminine, and full of story.

Not saved for occasions.

Worn often.
Loved deeply.
Returned to repeatedly.

Only six of each Noor dresses available online.

Reversible Jacket in Blue & Brocade 🖤

A handmade reversible jacket in silk with a warm wool inner — two completely different looks in one. Side one is clean steel blue with a self-tie belt and a decorative trim edge. Flip it and deep purple takes over — covered in an all-over ornate gold, green, pink and red floral medallion brocade with gold dot details and a gold border trim at the cuffs and hem. Made from consciously sourced upcycled fabric, no two pieces cut from exactly the same cloth.

This piece is a medium, fitting SA sizes 12–14. Priced at R1899 ✨

Part of the one&only Collection — no two pieces are ever the same. 🦌

Craft, culture, objects, interiors, women, memory, collecting.

The things we are drawn to rarely exist in isolation.

A jacket carries the story of a textile.
A textile carries the story of a place.
A place carries the story of the people who shaped it.

This season, we’re thinking about the pieces we choose to live with - garments, books, heirlooms, collected objects, and the stories they hold long after they enter our homes.

Honoured to see Sari for Change featured in latest issue, Roam Off The Map, through our collaboration with the - alongside brands, makers, and objects that celebrate thoughtful living, craftsmanship, culture, and the spirit of discovery.

Because dressing, for us, has never just been about clothing.

It’s about the worlds we build around ourselves.

Thank you to The Local Edit for creating spaces where local craftsmanship, heritage, and conscious design can be discovered, collected, and celebrated.
