Not Every Artist Should Stay Independent
Social media will tell you one thing:
"Never sign a record deal."
But the truth is more complicated.
Some of the world's biggest artists became successful because they signed the right deal at the right time.
The problem isn't record deals.
The problem is bad record deals.
Going independent gives you freedom.
But freedom also comes with responsibility.
You become your own marketer.
Your own manager.
Your own strategist.
Your own investor.
And not every artist has the time, budget, or team to do all of that alone.
A good record label can provide funding, marketing, radio promotion, playlist pitching, industry connections, music video budgets, tour support, and experienced people who help turn talent into a business.
That doesn't mean you should sign the first contract that lands on your desk.
It means you should understand what you're getting in exchange for what you're giving up.
The smartest artists don't ask:
"Should I stay independent or sign?"
They ask:
"Which path gives me the best chance to build a long-term career?"
