Men | Jackets — Sleeveless Canvas Zip Jacket Study

New sketchbook documentation has been added to Pieter Lategan | FASHION.

This entry records the first design notes and sketch for a handmade men’s sleeveless zip jacket, planned in canvas or denim fabric. The work forms part of my ongoing fashion sketchbook system, where ideas are recorded from the first note and drawing through to possible pattern, prototype and finished garment.

This early work forms part of my ongoing archive and studio documentation system.

I am using it to explain the Real Art Access Value Standard — a way of looking at art through access, authorship, documentation, provenance, condition, process, and long-term value.

For me, real art value is not only about a polished image. It is also about the record behind the work: when it was made, where it was made, why it matters, how it is documented, and how it connects to the artist’s larger body of work.

This work belongs to my early studio period before the full development of Silent Monumentalism and Gravitas, but it already carries something important: people gathered together, human presence, memory, colour, community, and the beginning of a serious archive.

Structure Study — Weight, Space and Material Presence

This sketchbook study by Pieter Lategan forms part of the ongoing development of Silent Monumentalism and Gravitas.

The drawing explores two structural forms in relation to each other. Through pencil marks, shadow, proportion and open construction lines, the study considers weight, balance, silence, space and material presence.
