Some chapters are harder to close than others.
Melkdoek began because I was looking for something that didn’t seem to exist. What started as a solution for my own family slowly grew into a little business that found its way into so many homes, prams, nurseries, and hearts.
Today, with a heavy heart, I’m sharing that it is time to say goodbye.
The reality of small business is that none of us exist in isolation. The family-run sewing business that stitched our blankets has fallen on difficult times, and our local fabric suppliers have closed their doors. It has been heartbreaking to witness, and ultimately it means that continuing Melkdoek is no longer sustainable.
I won’t pretend this decision is easy. Every label sewn in, every fabric chosen, every order packed carried a piece of my heart with it. Melkdoek was never just a product, it was a story of community, craftsmanship, and the belief that simple things, made well, matter.
To every person who supported us, thank you. Thank you for trusting us with gifts for new babies, for choosing local, for sharing photos and stories, and for allowing Melkdoek to become part of your family’s memories.
What I feel most today is gratitude. Gratitude that this little idea existed at all. Gratitude for the people who helped build it. Gratitude for every blanket that found a home.
May your Melkdoek be loved well, washed often, carried everywhere, and outlast your toddler by many years.
As a final farewell, all sale items are now an additional 50% off, automatically applied at checkout until June 20th.
Thank you for being part of this journey. 🤍
