Running a small business teaches you very quickly who values your work… and who doesn’t.

It’s honestly sad how some people take advantage of small businesses—expecting quality work, but always “finding a problem” when it’s time to pay.

Over time, I’ve learned to trust my instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, I will walk away from the job. No job is worth the stress of chasing payments.

To protect my business, I now require a 70% deposit before starting and full payment on completion. This is not negotiable.

As a small business, we simply cannot afford to work for people who don’t respect our time, skill, and effort.

To all the clients who do support and pay on time — thank you. You are the reason we keep going 🙌

🧵✨ Sewing Tips for Beginners – From Someone Who Truly Loves What She Does! ✨🧵

I see so many beginners get frustrated and give up too quickly — and I don’t want that for you! Sewing takes patience, but once you understand your machine, everything becomes so much easier.

Here are a few important tips to help you avoid common mistakes:

🔹 Stop Breaking Needles
Please don’t pull your fabric through the machine. Your machine feeds the fabric on its own.
You can guide it gently — but never pull it! Pulling can break your needle or even throw your machine’s timing out.

🔹 Thread Bundling Underneath?
If cotton is bunching up at the bottom, it’s usually your top threading. Rethread it carefully and make sure it’s sitting properly in the tension discs.

If the problem is on top, check your bobbin. Make sure it’s loaded correctly and turning anti-clockwise.

🔹 Use a Longer Stitch Length
When you’re learning, set your stitch length slightly longer. It makes sewing easier — and much easier to unpick if you make a mistake (and we ALL do 😉).

🔹 Check Your Tension
A good general setting is between 4 and 5 for normal sewing.

💛 My biggest advice? Don’t give up. Sewing needs patience. A lot of patience. But once you get it, it’s such a beautiful skill to have.

I love teaching people because I truly love sewing 🪡✨
If you ever need advice or help, I’m always happy to assist.

🌿 10 Years of Faith, Courage & Hard Work

Ten years ago, my life changed in a way I never expected.

After being diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer, I knew that continuing in a highly demanding job would not be good for my health. I made the difficult decision to resign — without knowing what my next step would be.

What I did know was sewing.

I grew up surrounded by creativity. My mom and grandmother were always sewing and knitting, and from a very young age, my twin sister and I were right there with them. When I say we, I mean the two of us — always together, always creating. I also took sewing classes from Grade 3 right through to Grade 12. Sewing was never just a skill — it was part of who I am.

So I started with what I knew.

I borrowed a sewing machine and made sure it was in perfect condition. I had learned how to service machines myself, so I ensured every stitch was strong and professional. My very first products were dog beds. I thought if I could sell them at the local market, I could slowly build a customer base and grow from there.

At first, business was slow — especially in Durban summer when dog beds aren’t exactly in demand! I sold dog beds, treats, clothing, and toys. Slowly but surely, things began to pick up. By winter, the dog beds were selling fast.

Customers began asking, “Do you make these yourself?”
When I said yes, they started asking if I could make cushions, covers, and other custom items.

That’s how it began.

I saved every cent I earned from the market and eventually bought my first industrial sewing machine. Work increased, and I found myself sewing late into the night. My small kitchen became my sewing room. When we had large projects, we set up outside on the stoep.

As things grew, I recruited a friend to help cut patterns and assist with bigger jobs. One year later, I was able to build a small wooden cabin to work from.

Then opportunity knocked again — I found someone selling wooden pallets for R5 each. I bought a truckload and slowly expanded the cabin, piece by piece, into the workspace it is today.

From borrowed machine…
To kitchen workshop…
To stoep production line…
To wooden cabin studio.

Today, we are a small but proud team of three. I have two wonderful ladies working alongside me, and we are deeply grateful for the incredible support from our local community in KZN.

For 10 years, we have built this business with faith, determination, and many late nights. We still dream of one day having a proper building where we won’t have to worry about rain and storms affecting our work — but we are proud of how far we have come.

✨ Our Services Include:
• Embroidery & Digitizing
• Logo Design
• DTF Printing (designs, mugs, mouse pads, uniforms & more)
• Laser Engraving
• Upholstery
• Alterations
• Ripstop
• And more custom work

This business was built during one of the most difficult seasons of my life. It gave me purpose, strength, and healing.

To every single customer who has supported us over the past 10 years — thank you. You are part of our story.

With gratitude,
Cindy 💛
