The Polygamist broke my heart in a way I didn’t expect. It reminded me that sometimes the people we love the most can become the people who hurt us the deepest. It made me think about all the women who stay because they believe things will get better, who keep giving chances because they see the good in someone, and who sacrifice their own happiness hoping that one day they will be loved the way they deserve.
What touched me the most is how easy it is to lose yourself while trying to save a relationship. You start by making small compromises, then before you know it, you’ve silenced your feelings, ignored your intuition, and accepted things you once promised yourself you never would. Not because you’re weak, but because you love deeply and you keep hoping for change.
This movie reminded me that love should never require you to abandon yourself. No amount of money, status, gifts, or promises can replace peace of mind. Being chosen means nothing if you’re not valued. Being married means nothing if you’re not respected. Being loved means nothing if you’re constantly left feeling broken.
I walked away realizing that one of the saddest things in life is not being alone—it’s being with someone who makes you feel alone. And one of the bravest things a person can do is choose themselves when staying is destroying them.
To every woman who has ever ignored her tears, doubted her worth, or stayed longer than she should have because of love, I hope you remember that your peace is precious, your heart matters, and you deserve a love that doesn’t make you suffer to prove it.
