Season of Revival | The year of transformation
November: The Month of Transition
2 Corinthians 4:16
_"Therefore we do not become discouraged [spiritless, disappointed, or afraid]. Though our outer self is [progressively] wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day by day."_
TITLE: DO NOT BECOME DISCOURAGED - OUTER WASTING, INNER RENEWING
Do not judge your November by what you see on the outside.
1. THEREFORE WE DO NOT BECOME DISCOURAGED
The Greek word for "become discouraged" is:
EGKAKOUMEN - ἐγκακοῦμεν, from EGKAKEO
It means: to lose heart, to become spiritless, to faint, to give up, to be afraid and disappointed.
Paul says: THEREFORE we do not EGKAKOUMEN.
Therefore - because of what? Because of verses before this: we have this treasure in earthen vessels, we are afflicted but not crushed, perplexed but not in despair, struck down but not destroyed, and we know He who raised Jesus will raise us also.
Therefore, in transition, we do not lose heart.
Discouragement is the enemy of transition. Many people do not fail because God failed them - they fail because they became spiritless in the middle of the move.
In November, the devil's assignment is not to kill you. It is to discourage you until you stop moving. Until you say: "This transition is too hard, I will go back."
Paul says: We do not become discouraged. We do not become spiritless. We do not become disappointed. We do not become afraid.
Say it today: I will not EGKAKEO. I will not lose heart.
1. THOUGH OUR OUTER SELF IS PROGRESSIVELY WASTING AWAY
The Greek word for "wasting away" is:
DIAPHTHEIRO - διαφθείρω
It means: to decay, to waste away, to be worn out, to be corrupted by time and pressure.
Paul is honest. He does not pretend the outer self is not feeling it.
Your outer self is:
- Your body that gets tired
- Your strength that feels less
- Your resources that seem to decrease in transition
- Your old structures, old comforts, old routines that are breaking down
In transition, the outer will waste away. The old house must break down before the new house is built. The caterpillar must dissolve before the butterfly appears.
Don't panic when you see outer wasting in November:
- When money looks low, outer is wasting
- When strength looks low, outer is wasting
- When old relationships fall away, outer is wasting
- When the old way stops working, outer is wasting
That is not the end. That is transition. The outer must waste so the inner can be revealed.
Paul says "progressively" - it is happening day by day, little by little. But it is not defeat. It is making room.
1. YET OUR INNER SELF IS BEING PROGRESSIVELY RENEWED DAY BY DAY
This is the "yet" that changes everything.
Though outer wastes, YET inner renews.
The Greek word for "renewed" is:
ANAKAINOO - ἀνακαινόω, from ANAKAINOSIS
The same renewal we learned yesterday in Romans 12:2. To make new again, to renovate, to restore to fresh strength.
Your inner self is:
- Your spirit, born again and transferred to the Kingdom
- Your mind, being renewed with the mind of Christ
- Your faith, growing stronger
- Your hope, becoming brighter
- Your inner man, where Christ dwells
And it is being renewed *DAY BY DAY.*
Not once a year. Not once a month. Day by day.
- Monday your inner man was renewed
- Tuesday your inner man was renewed
- Wednesday your inner man was renewed
- Thursday your inner man was renewed
- Today, Friday, your inner man is being renewed AGAIN
Progressively. Continuously. Even while the outer wastes, the inner gains.
This is the secret of November transition: God measures progress by the inner, not by the outer. Men look at your outer wasting and say you are failing. God looks at your inner renewing and says you are transitioning.
Do not become discouraged because your outer looks weak. Your inner is getting stronger every day.
1. THE EXCHANGE OF NOVEMBER
November is an exchange:
Outer wasting for inner renewing.
Old form dying for new form living.
Natural strength decreasing for spiritual strength increasing.
Like Enoch, you are being taken from one place to another, and the old place cannot come with you. Like the butterfly, the old form must waste for the new form to fly.
If you focus only on the outer, you will be discouraged.
If you focus on the inner, you will be encouraged.
Paul chose to focus on the inner. He said "we look not at the things which are seen, for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal" - verse 18.
Your outer wasting is temporal. Your inner renewing is eternal.
In November, train your eyes to see the inner renewal:
- Are you praying more? Inner renewed.
- Are you trusting more? Inner renewed.
- Are you forgiving quicker? Inner renewed.
- Are you hearing God clearer? Inner renewed.
- Are you less afraid than last week? Inner renewed.
That is progress. That is transition working.
HOW TO WALK TODAY - FRIDAY 6 NOVEMBER
1. Refuse discouragement out loud.
When disappointment comes today, answer it: "I do not become discouraged. I do not lose heart. I am not spiritless. I am not afraid."
2. Don't judge today by the outer.
Your bank account, your body, your circumstances are the outer self. They are wasting, but they are not the real you. Judge today by the inner.
3. Receive today's renewal.
Renewal is day by day. That means today has a fresh portion. Pray: "Lord, renew my inner self TODAY. Give me today's strength, today's faith, today's mind."
4. Keep moving in transition.
Discouraged people stop. Renewed people keep walking. Keep walking with God like Enoch, keep renewing your mind like Romans 12:2, and your transition will complete.
PRAYER
Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You that I do not become discouraged. I will not lose heart, I will not become spiritless, disappointed, or afraid. Though my outer self is progressively wasting away, yet my inner self is being progressively renewed day by day. Renew me today, Lord - ANAKAINOO me. Strengthen my inner man. Let my faith be fresher today than yesterday. Let my hope be stronger today than yesterday. I will not judge my November by the outer wasting. I judge it by the inner renewing. In Jesus' name, Amen.
DECLARATION FOR TODAY
I do NOT become discouraged!
I do not lose heart - I do not EGKAKEO!
My outer self may waste, but my inner self is renewed!
I am renewed DAY BY DAY - ANAKAINOO!
Today I am stronger inside than yesterday!
My inner man is growing while my outer man is changing!
I focus on the eternal, not the temporal!
October elevated me - November renews me daily!
_"Therefore we do not become discouraged. Though our outer self is progressively wasting away, yet our inner self is being progressively renewed day by day."_ - 2 Corinthians 4:16
The outer is wasting, but the inner is winning. Do not lose heart today.
Be blessed
