Many buyers ask how Nissan's e-Power differs from a familiar Toyota hybrid system. The difference lies entirely in how the power reaches the ground.
In a traditional parallel hybrid, the engine can drive the wheels directly alongside the electric motor.
Nissan's e-Power system is a series hybrid. The engine never physically drives the wheels; its only job is to charge the battery and to power the electric motor, which then drives the wheels.
The result is a different hybrid driving experience, with the wheels always driven by an electric motor while the engine provides the electricity needed to keep the system running.
