The sentiment of the day is that women are still not listened to or believed when they talk about their pain, symptoms or experiences ❤️‍🩹

The desired world we are working towards is one where any woman can walk into a doctor’s office and instead of being dismissed is deeply heard ❤️

As the opening remarks started - “Wins in women’s health are never won quietly. They happen because of the women who won’t stop talking about it.” 📣📣📣

So Mum Walk will continue to champion community and connection as essential postpartum care.

Grateful to all of the speakers and the government engagement in key areas:

Dads need the power of connection, community and a good ol’ chat too ❤️💪

Having a village requires everyone helping to build it - brick by brick. That’s why we want to make it as easy as possible for blokes to build theirs too.

We always hear how hard it is for dads to meet and connect. So now there’s a map to make it easier than ever to find local ways to connect (link in bio 🤠)

So many dads want to do more with their bubs, and want to enjoy those experiences with other dads. But from the cultural norms holding back men from connecting in the early days, to the lack of programs - we don’t make it easy.

There’s so many incredible dad led community groups and charities out there changing the way dads step into fatherhood.

If there’s a dad in your life you think needs to know about more ways to meet other dads - send this their way!

This is huge news 👏📣‼️

Mothers need so much more support in the postpartum period. The quality of and access to clinical, professional and social support should not come down to chance, or what you can afford to pay.

Mum Walk is building a solution to end motherhood loneliness. Our hope is that connection in motherhood becomes a central part of our maternal mental health system, not something that sits on the margins of it.

I’m hopeful this inquiry leads to real, lasting support for grassroots charities like ours, and the dozens of others working tirelessly every day to improve the postpartum experience for mothers.

Let’s make sure this moment turns into real change.

Marielle Smith - thank you for sharing your story and pushing this motion through. Your courage in speaking up will change things for mothers across Australia.

Whats your biggest challenge in parenting right now? 💬

Turns out when you ask mums what their parenting challenges are - it’s rarely about the kids 😐

It’s the exhaustion, pressures, doubt, fear, burnout and isolation that comes with modern motherhood.

Being overlooked, overworked and overwhelmed by the lack of support in our systems and culture.

Mum Walk believes in sharing our truths to help more mums feel less alone.

Thank you to those who shared their truths. I know so many mums share these feelings and experiences.

Every month we ask our mums in our newsletter community one big truth.

Mum Walk Monthly Drop 🙌✨💖🚶‍♀️

What a month! From Christmas in July meet ups, toasting marshmallows, trips away - there’s always so much happening across our communities! This is what a more connected, joyful version of motherhood can be!

Our Darwin walk has already doubled and has an incredible new one in and we added 8 new Mum Walk communities to our movement 😲

We’re doing everything we can to grow and support this movement to make sure that no mum has to walk through motherhood alone.

Feeling like you are the only one who experience a traumatic birth, or the on-going symptoms associated with one is an extremely isolating feeling ❤️‍🩹

That’s why charities like Peak body for birth-related trauma. are so important. This week is birth trauma awareness week and they are amplifying their report to ensure that mums don’t have to navigate birth trauma alone and advocate for more support.

From how you are treated and psychological experiences to physical injury - there’s no checklist for what a traumatic experience is. You don’t have to walk through it alone - there is help available.

And if you need to talk to someone - head to our link in the bio to find support for free from services like Mums Matter Psychology

We’re back in the news🗞️ ! This time to talk about the TWO bodies of research Mum Walk has either led on or contributed to this year 💪

We’ve not yet had a response from the Labor Government on our report - or how they plan to solve the escalating motherhood loneliness crisis. I’m really hoping our voices are heard soon 👂🏻📣 Rebecca White
Mark Butler MP Tim Richardson MP Victorian Department of Health

Because as this article ends - we now know that this is a problem. What we need to start talking about is how we solve it!

Mum Walk has already been building the solution one step at a time - but there’s only so far grassroots movement can take it. We need real investment to switch on national infrastructure to support more mums.

Greatful to media organisations and health corporations like Women's Agenda and medibank leading the way in amplifying this pressing public health priority ❤️

Our first Impact Report has just dropped and WHAT A YEAR 💪😲💖👏

As a charity every year we’re required to report back on our impact. The results: Mum Walk is doing exactly what we set out to do - reduce isolation, build connection and improve the mental health outcomes of mums.

None of this has been easy or effortless - advocating for the social infrastructure mothers deserve and building a free service into existence is the challenge of my career -
but these results and feedback make certain that Mum Walk deserves a place at the centre of our maternal health system, not on the margins of it.

Our vision for next year is to unlock more organisational capacity to support mums more deeply. To have the resources to work with them more closely on how to build sustainable communities.

None of this would be possible without our amazing partners the memo as well as medibank 🫶

And to every person in this community who has powered us to get this far - thank you 🥹

Mum Walk | Where Motherhood Finds Its Stride was started because of the belief that when women and mothers gather - magic happens ⚡️

Our report launch with the memo was exactly that. Cross sectors experts in mental health, lived experience mothers, nurses within the system and people with powerful platforms all coming together to have the deeper discussions around motherhood.

How loneliness, isolation and disconnection shows up in our homes, at work, or with our care teams - we can see gaps in the system that need to be filled.

But there were so many positive stories of when connection, community and care teams work! ❤️

Thank you to everyone in the room.

We’ve taken your voice to the streets! 📣👀

When we listened to the stories and statistics from our community - we knew we had to turn the volume up on the issue of maternal loneliness.

The scale of loneliness is massive - but the depth of it was more shocking. Too many mums are experiencing levels of loneliness and isolation that we know impacts their mental wellbeing 🧠🚨

We can’t let motherhood become the loneliest job in Australia❌!

That’s why Mum Walk is calling on Health Minister Mark Butler MP and Assistant Minister Rebecca White to fill the connection gap.

Maternal loneliness is a crisis that can’t wait - sign the petition today to help us make sure that no mum has to walk through motherhood alone.
