The word ‘community’ gets thrown around a lot these days - but what is it realllllly? 🧐🤔✍️

We asked our Community Lead Lisa for her reflections on what creates real community. And we couldn’t agree more 🙌

Everything about building communities has changed over the decades. From where we find it, what it means and how we nourish it. Busier lives, scrolling and rising costs can all move us towards disconnection. But, if we want communities to exist, we have to keep building them - together!

Mum Walk | Where Motherhood Finds Its Stride is one of the ways we can do that. Free, accessible, flexible ways to meet, connect and build real belonging ❤️

I’M OBSESSED WITH ALL THESE JOYFUL MUMS 🥹🥹🥹

Our latest Mum Walk monthly drop is here, and it’s always my favourite time of the month!

This is just a small sample of what a month of Mum Walk looks like across the country 💪

So many of our groups have so many mums showing up, there’s no camera lens wide enough to capture them all!

While others have smaller, intimate groups, still deeply connecting and walking through motherhood together.

Mum Walk won’t stop advocating for this version of motherhood. One where walking through motherhood together is made simple. Where the simple act of swapping stories feels like it lightens the load.

This mum-led movement is unstoppable! ❤️

Yesterday Georgie Dent from The Parenthood, turned the volume up on the quiet struggles of millions of parents with an incredibly powerful address to the nation 📣📣📣

From the crushing costs of raising a family or the lottery system of flexible work places to the policies gaps that need to be filled so parents can get more time with their children when it matters most.

If you’re not already - go follow The Parenthood, as they advocate for australia to become the best place in the world to be a parent.

Mum Walk is grateful to be mentioned as part of the solution, on such an important stage. Leaving parents alone in their houses and pretending they didn’t just go through the most transformative change of their lives is always going to lead to the same outcome.

It’s time to re-build community and connection for parents to thrive.

We know mums are busy, tired and often have to do most things one-handed 🙃

So we want to make sure it’s as easy as possible for you to take part and have your voice heard on the issues that matter to you.

Sometimes it can feel that things will never change for mums. This moment feels different. This is a moment where simply sharing your story should and can lead to real systems change.

The sentiment of the day is that women are still not listened to or believed when they talk about their pain, symptoms or experiences ❤️‍🩹

The desired world we are working towards is one where any woman can walk into a doctor’s office and instead of being dismissed is deeply heard ❤️

As the opening remarks started - “Wins in women’s health are never won quietly. They happen because of the women who won’t stop talking about it.” 📣📣📣

So Mum Walk will continue to champion community and connection as essential postpartum care.

Dads need the power of connection, community and a good ol’ chat too ❤️💪

Having a village requires everyone helping to build it - brick by brick. That’s why we want to make it as easy as possible for blokes to build theirs too.

We always hear how hard it is for dads to meet and connect. So now there’s a map to make it easier than ever to find local ways to connect (link in bio 🤠)

So many dads want to do more with their bubs, and want to enjoy those experiences with other dads. But from the cultural norms holding back men from connecting in the early days, to the lack of programs - we don’t make it easy.

There’s so many incredible dad led community groups and charities out there changing the way dads step into fatherhood.

If there’s a dad in your life you think needs to know about more ways to meet other dads - send this their way!

This is huge news 👏📣‼️

Mothers need so much more support in the postpartum period. The quality of and access to clinical, professional and social support should not come down to chance, or what you can afford to pay.

Mum Walk is building a solution to end motherhood loneliness. Our hope is that connection in motherhood becomes a central part of our maternal mental health system, not something that sits on the margins of it.

I’m hopeful this inquiry leads to real, lasting support for grassroots charities like ours, and the dozens of others working tirelessly every day to improve the postpartum experience for mothers.

Let’s make sure this moment turns into real change.

Whats your biggest challenge in parenting right now? 💬

Turns out when you ask mums what their parenting challenges are - it’s rarely about the kids 😐

It’s the exhaustion, pressures, doubt, fear, burnout and isolation that comes with modern motherhood.

Being overlooked, overworked and overwhelmed by the lack of support in our systems and culture.

Mum Walk believes in sharing our truths to help more mums feel less alone.

Thank you to those who shared their truths. I know so many mums share these feelings and experiences.

Mum Walk Monthly Drop 🙌✨💖🚶‍♀️

What a month! From Christmas in July meet ups, toasting marshmallows, trips away - there’s always so much happening across our communities! This is what a more connected, joyful version of motherhood can be!

Our Darwin walk has already doubled and has an incredible new one in and we added 8 new Mum Walk communities to our movement 😲

We’re doing everything we can to grow and support this movement to make sure that no mum has to walk through motherhood alone.
