Somewhere along the way, Latin dance got a very strong expression through short skirts, beautiful and sometimes extravagant cutouts and of course fringe. There's a real history and reason behind why, but the feel of the dance was never about how much skin you show. 💃

The movement comes from the hips, frame, and footwork, and proper dancewear can highlight all these parts without exposure. 🙌 Dancers should be the ones deciding how much spice to add to the dance image - not be dictated by the outfit.

Not everyone looks their best in black dancewear. Deep navy sits softer on the face, more flattering on more skin tones, and looks just as elegant on the ballroom floor.

What does ruching do in a skirt? 🤔

When fabric is gathered toward the centre, the eye tends to follow that line inward. The folds create texture and dimension, and depending on the body, the effect will be different.

🩷On a fuller frame, the ruched front draws attention toward the waist while the mesh layer drapes away from the body rather than sitting against it. The side slit pulls the eye down to the leg. The skirt does its work quietly.

🖤On a slimmer frame, the same ruching adds dimension and curve. The relaxed fit gives the hip area presence it wouldn't have in a flat slip skirt.
