You probably own at least one bodysuit from a fashion brand. And you probably wore it to the dance practice. A dance leotard looks similar from the outside, but they're doing completely different jobs.

A casual bodysuit is built to disappear under jeans. Oftentimes it's ❌non-athletic fabric, ❌thong cut, ❌light or plastic snaps. Lift your arms over your head and it pulls, bunches, rides wrong. That's not a design flaw, because it was never built for this type of movement.

The Maritime Chic stripe didn't come from a catalogue. The exact stripe size and weight was designed in our Halifax studio, then produced by a leading European textile mill in Soft Matte fabric that moves the way dancewear should.

Three ways to wear it on the floor demonstrated in this video:
→ Drift Top - wear it as a throw over a leotard or as a standalone, cold-shoulder cutouts, adjustable ties at the back;

→ La Mer Leotard - off-shoulder, open and elegant without overexposure;

→ Anchor Top - mock neck, ruched waist, (top also comes with detachable sash for when you want to change the look).

Most dancers who say leotards don't work for them may have been wearing the wrong style. Neckline, sleeve length, and coverage vary enough between styles that it genuinely matters which one you choose. The Basic Customizable leotard is built around that idea. So when you choose, start with the neckline as each option does something different on the floor:

➡️ Boatneck - sits wider across the collarbone, elegant in ballroom frame, highlights the shoulder line
➡️ Scoop neck - open and classic, works across styles, relaxed but polished
➡️ V-neck - draws the eye down, elongates the neckline, adds a slightly more dressed-up feel
➡️ Mock neck - clean and minimal, great for dancers who want coverage at the neck without feeling restricted
➡️ Round neck - simple and versatile, the everyday workhorse

Then choose your sleeve length from long to short, and your bottom cut in panties or shorts depending on what's more comfortable to you. When you choose Easy Move fabric your leotard will feel second-skin soft, lightweight, and breathable enough for the longest practice days.
