📣❤️🎉We have some absolutely wonderful news to share (seriously- we are between doing cartwheels and crying with emotion!!)🎉❤️💃🏽 Between basket weaving, Kiliminjaro climbing, half marathon fundraising, the amazing generosity of .uk and your support, we did it!
In October 2024, on the first visit in Zimbabwe with Kutajana in Binga we visited the local school. They had two classroom blocks. One didn’t have a roof, floor or windows. There was no furniture and the children had to sit on cement blocks in makeshift shade (pictures 1 and 2)
Inspired by the determination of the women we work for (and with funds from sales of their Binga baskets), we worked with .uk on a transformational project. WIMIN, Women in Medicine International, spearheaded the fundraising effort at their conferences and through their community of phenomenal female doctors in the UK💙
The first phase involved building the roof so it could be used through the year including the rainy season (pictures 3, 4, 5 and 6). But, as you can see, there was still work to do to finish the classroom and get furniture in! The next stage involved putting in flooring, installing windows, plastering and painting walls (picture 7 and 8).
This week, the furniture is in 🎉 and teachers cottage is complete! This transformation has taken a lot of heart and hard work from the community but we couldn’t be more excited for the 260 children at the school ❤️ this means that the school can operate as a fully independent school rather than a satellite of another school so students no longer need to walk over 20k round trip to sit exams!
