As I sat darning 2 women passed by and said ‘we were just saying we’ve brought some sewing but have done it yet!’ ‘Bring it with you!’ I said. Some people read a book, I stitch🪡🧵

People often ask me how DOLLY began. Well, I don’t often share personal stuff but it all began after the tragic death of my lovely husband Tim in 2011 whose 58th birthday it would’ve been today.

After losing my husband and father of my 3 young children I needed a livelihood that allowed me to be there for my kids, so I went back to the thing I knew best, sewing, giving up my art teaching career. Looking back, sewing most definitely helped me navigate my grief too.

So DOLLY was born out of the most challenging of times but has given back so much. It has not only supported my children financially but also spiritually as they absorbed everything that DOLLY stands for, thriving joyfully against all odds. They are indeed thriving in their own creative passions - music, maths, illustration and textiles, a complete mash up of Tim and myself. He lives on in them in every silly gesture and creative, maths-y moment.

As Fashion Revolution Week 2026 drew to a close this week let’s celebrate what we’ve achieved!
Mend In Public Day was a pure delight and shifted minds and created ripples.
Every action no matter how small, builds a future where fashion respects and dignifies both people and planet. It doesn’t end here though. Every day is ‘Mend Day’ at DOLLY, not always in public, although I’m tempted to work outside more in the summer months! I will not cease to take action in the fight for a fair and just fashion future and hope you’ll join in more of my upcoming events and workshops.

HUGE THANK YOUs for all your support and loyalty💫🙏🏻🌱

JOIN US for Mend In Public Day! Tomorrow 1.30-4pm
It’s is an annual day of collective action which falls within Fashion Revolution Week. The idea is simple: stitch in protest against disposable fashion. Amidst busy Saturday shoppers, we will repair our torn pockets and broken seams and spark conversations on making Loved Clothes Last.
Mend in Public Day stands as a beacon of change in a world inundated with fashion waste. By participating, you’ll be part of a global creative action resisting the cycle of excess through repair and reuse. Get your repair pile (or other fibre crafts!) at the ready.

All skill levels and Fashion Revolutionaries welcome! (maybe bring a chair - I only have 6!)

It’s Earth Day! Sewing can empower you more than you know – connecting with the process of how clothing is made is crucial to create awareness and accountability. Just add action and we have the secret ingredient to hope. Our current fashion industry is broken, overproduction and overconsumption is creating a global textile waste crisis. Inequality and lack of transparency are leading to exploitation of people and planet. Progress does not happen in silence, it happens when people show up.

So join me THIS Saturday to turn awareness into action on

MEND IN PUBLIC DAY!
Saturday 25th April

So that I don’t miss a moment of getting to know your garment and the story behind why it means so much to you, and so that YOU have uninterrupted time to tell me ALL about it, we are moving to a booking system.

DOLLY Shop is upgrading to DOLLY Studio (same location obvs!) where you’ll visit us for your Repair & Alteration Consultation.

How it works:
✂️Book your 10 mins DROP OFF slot via the link in bio or go to www.dolly.uk.com/service-page/drop-off
✂️Grab your loved and laundered garments and bring them along, just as usual.
✂️When they’re ready I’ll send you a text, just as usual, but this time there’ll be a link for you to book your 5 min PICK UP slot.
✂️Wanna just turn up like before? Then pop along on Saturday mornings 10am-1pm but be ready for a little queue and the odd interruption.

Can’t wait to see ya!

There’s still a few place left on Visible Mending & Embellishment Workshop Saturday 24th Jan.

Celebrate wear and tear with your stitch stories - show up for a glow up!
Join us as we create connection and thoughtfulness in keeping clothes. We will be exploring visible mending techniques such as Sashiko stitching, embroidery, applique and darning as a creative way to embrace and celebrate wear and tear.
So bring along your worn out, and in need of some love, clothing and I’ll show you my take on sashiko stitching and guide you around all the fun embroidery and darning techniques. We believe there’s a wealth of power in a tiny needle and thread – loved clothes that last are part of the change we need to protect our planet and respect the people who craft our clothes.

So jump on board and show up for a glow up!
