Market Queen.
Fish mongers, market women, street vendors — every culture has them. The ones who look “unstructured,” “chaotic,” always crowned in a headscarf that is more than fabric. It’s a uniform.
This scarf is our own. tying our heritage across the continent celebrating the 54
They’re often romanticized and framed as “resilient,” “micro‑business owners,” or folklore — but that lens misses the truth.
These are strategists. Power brokers. Women who run monopolies, negotiate with governments, influence elections, set prices, move borders, move economies.
And today, I stand with them.
From vending with an idea in crowded spaces to building in a new city, to a lease, to pivoting back to e-commerce , the address we’ve had for 10 years + , to strategically showing up for community every time — I rise because of them.
Most times I am alone, sometimes I’ve extended collaborations, and invited others to share in the opportunities , and in kind they have done the same
I honor those before me and those I hope to inspire to live their dreams. I am part of this lineage: the builders, the vendors, the market queens who start small and grow powerful.
