After a long time we’ve had a chance to work with chikankari - one of our most favourite crafts.

We wanted to bring about the authentic forms, including the shadow stitches on voile cotton, murri, bijli- stitches that have been overcast by the ghaas patti stitches you see everywhere!

Sometimes in life, we all want to do things to blow off steam, to relax ourselves, to take our minds off of things that are chewing away at us in daily life. Do you know how much of a luxury that is? 

Well this dance class taught us exactly that. When you’re living hand to mouth, and we say this with the most respect possible - all of these families are doing well, and they’re living based on the earnings they bring in. But sometimes, taking money out for luxuries like dance class or a hobby class for their kids is not in the books! 

This summer season, that’s exactly what we wanted to do. We wanted to host this class, to let the kids forget their lives at home for those two hours a day. To allow them to learn a craft that not only builds creativity but also foster some ideas in them as to what they wanted to do in their lives. 

Education - we insisted was of utmost importance in their lives - and while some of hte parents are capable of sending their kids to school - some of them didn’t want to go to school whatsoever. And you know? Those were some of the best performing kids in the dance class! 

sometimes, finding your passion is a luxury not many can afford. We’re trying to make that more accessible with this small step! All the kids were awarded certificates along with gifts for the completion of this years dance class :) a huge shoutout to Basti Foundation for collaborating with us for this project ❤️
