We had the honor of contributing our textiles to 𝐇𝐈𝐊𝐀𝐑𝐈 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐈 森星 ’s ikikata.atelier project, which has been carefully restored over many years.

The fabric used as privacy screens is made from several varieties of Japanese antique h**p cloth, naturally dyed with cherry branches from the garden and persimmon tannin.

The upper section of each panel is finished with smoked bamboo, a material traditionally used as the understructure of thatched roofs.

Throughout the process, we sought to honor Hikari’s vision of creating a gentle connection between the monumental stone and the organic architecture, allowing the textiles to quietly become part of that dialogue.

New Arrival

A simple, yet deeply expressive Japanese indigo rug, handcrafted over 100 years ago.

Made from handwoven cotton textiles with subtle sashiko stitching, this piece combines striped and checked fabrics in a quiet patchwork composition. Time has softened the indigo into rich, layered tones, giving the rug a calm presence that only age can create.

A timeless textile for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Recently opened SANU 2nd Home Amami Oshima 1st.

Studio Waraya Studio Waraya was pleased to support this project by sourcing and providing vintage fabric originally woven in Amami Oshima.

It is a privilege to see these historic textiles given a new life through sakiori weaving and become part of a space where they can continue to be appreciated for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who visited Waraya during the rainy season.

There is a quiet beauty to our old farmhouse and garden at this time of year, shaped by the sound of rain and lush greenery.

We are always grateful to share Japanese textiles, craftsmanship, and rural life with visitors from around the world.
