Fashion isn’t meant to be disposable.
Especially during Dashain, when buying something new has always been part of the celebration, we think it’s also worth asking: what happens to our clothes when we’re done with them?
The answer is closer to home than we might think.
A recent waste-characterisation study by Doko Foundation at Banchare Danda — where much of Kathmandu Valley’s waste ends up — found textiles made up around 30% of the waste studied. Mixed and unsegregated waste continues to put pressure on a landfill system already carrying the Valley’s growing waste burden.
For us, this is a reminder that fashion can be approached differently.
