We are the biggest and longest established practice in Invercargill. Our optometrists are members of the New Zealand Association of Optometrists and The New Zealand Association of Contact Lens Practitioners complying with the continuing education requirements, patient care guidelines and hygiene standards of both bodies. All 6 of our optometrists also have a therapeutic endorsment to their scope of practice allowing them to treat inflammatory and infective eye disease. Our Zeiss Meditec Cirrus OCT instrument provides world leading technology in the detection and management of eye disease including glaucoma and age related macular degeneration. Today is World Sight Day, an international awareness day held to highlight the importance of global eye health and accessible eye care.

Our team recognises the care and support that organisations such as The Fred Hollows Foundation, Blind Low Vision NZ and Glaucoma New Zealand provide to those who are less fortunate and need care the most. We've provided links in the comments to a few of the many well deserving charities out there.

At least 1 billion people globally have a vision impairment that is preventable or untreated. Early intervention and proper eye care are key.

Have you had the pleasure of meeting Peter yet?

Peter is our new Manager and Dispensing Optician at Lobb Optical. He comes from a family in Northern Ireland with deep roots in optics. His grandfather opened his first optical practice in Belfast in 1949, and this is where Peter got his first taste of optics in the 1990s, assisting his uncle in the workshop and helping patients find the right spectacles.

In 2011, his sister Karen approached him about working with her in Cornwall, where she had established a successful optical practice in Truro. Peter retrained at ABDO College in Canterbury, at the beautiful Godmersham Park Hall, qualifying as a registered British Dispensing Optician.

It was in Cornwall that Peter met his wife, Emma, and they now have four children.

Lobb Optical cast their net wide to bring Peter on board, but New Zealand was an easy sell! As a multiple Ultra and marathon runner, he loves the outdoors and is especially excited to explore new running routes.

Yesterday we celebrated Peter reaching his 90 days with us. We can already see he has a passion for optics, a great sense of humor and an infectious positive personality. We can't wait for you all to meet him.
