There is something deeply grounding about the cherry trees at the Japanese American Historical Plaza in Portland. Beyond their stunning pink canopy, these 100 trees stand as a living monument to resilience of the community.

As we watch the petals drift toward the Willamette, we’re reminded of the history that shaped our home and the strength of those who came before us. Take a moment to sit, breathe, and soak in the arrival of spring.

Looking for a little magic in the Beaver State?

Did you know Oregon is home to the only leprechaun colony west of Ireland?

Tucked away in the middle of SW Naito Parkway in Portland lies Mill Ends Park. Measuring just two feet across, it officially holds the title of the smallest park in the United States!

Created by journalist Dick Fagan in 1948, the park is said to be the home of Patrick O’Toole and his group of leprechauns. Fagan claimed he was the only person who could see them, and he even wrote about their tiny lives in his newspaper column.

Mill Ends is a reminder that Oregon is full of big stories in small places.

Step into Oregon’s past—one covered bridge at a time.

Tucked in quiet corners of the state, these timbered crossings are more than bridges—they’re whispers of history, where every plank tells a story. From horse-drawn wagons to electric cars, each passage adds a new chapter to a timeless tale.

Lane County alone holds more covered bridges than anywhere west of the Mississippi—perfect spots to pause, wander, and feel the magic of a slower era.

Pull over, touch the weathered wood, and discover the stories these bridges have carried for over a century.

The Gallon House Bridge, located in Marion County between Mt. Angel and Silverton, takes its name from the gallon-sized jars of liquor once sold nearby by bootleggers during the Prohibition era. Locals at the time commonly referred to the crossing as the “Gallon House.”

Constructed in 1916 at a cost of $1,310, the bridge remains in service today as Oregon’s oldest operational covered bridge. It spans Abiqua Creek and stands as a lasting piece of the region’s history.

Since 2010, the Santa Clones have been popping up in secret spots around Portland. In the grand tradition of not spoiling the fun (because half the joy is cracking the riddle and finding them yourself), we’ll give you this year’s haiku clue… but we’re keeping the location ho-ho-hush.

Where cola once flowed,
the plant all but forgotten,
yet left us a splash.

Carbonated waves,
a frothy sea of soda,
on a sandy shore.

Liquid silver face,
two seven near the zipper,
solve and hit paydirt.
