After years of neighborhood advocacy, the Portland City Council unanimously voted to name the SE Holgate Blvd. overpass "The Brooklyn Bridge”, a title the neighborhood community celebrated with an official ribbon-cutting on May 31.
While it shares a familiar name with the iconic bridge in New York, Portland’s version couldn’t be more different and has a distinct local character, serving as an observation deck for the historic Brooklyn Rail Yard.
This yard has been a vital artery for the region since the early 1900s. Forget about maritime ships. Here, we’re all about front-row seats for freight operations. It’s one of the best spots in Portland for a little trainspotting, giving you a front-row seat to watch the pulse of Pacific Northwest commerce move by.
