Celebrate World Beatles Day with Flax & Fiber Yarn Co!

All week long we'll play through the Beatles' albums and celebrate their messages of peace, love, and global unity. In honor of Sarah's favorite album, she's chosen Yellow Submarine as our special of the week - so any of our customers will receive 25 extra loyalty points when they purchase something yellow.

In addition if you're casting on a summer tee with us this Wednesday, you can get additional extra points when you purchase one of the qualifying yarns - hint: they have cotton/linen in them. So if you purchase the Mojave Dandelion that's extra extra points!

Have questions about our loyalty program? Let us know!

Yesterday was such a special day with Alissa KnittingFairy, and the fun continues! A small group of us will gather on Thursdays at the shop from 1 to 2 to work on our Patina Shawls. You’re welcome to join us, even if you didn’t take the class.

You just need size US 6 knitting needles and a skein of fi*****ng weight yarn (about 400 yards) and you can buy the pattern from us at the shop. Of course we can also help with yarn if you don’t have any in your stash 😉.

Michelle here, and I am using Striata from Aimee Aucoin Alexander. I think the long, slow gradient is going to be really interesting, but not take away from the lace pattern. So if you are looking through your stash, you might try either a tonal or a gradient, but not something too variegated that will take away from the lace.

Hope you can join us!
And thanks again, Alissa, for making this happen.🥰

It’s Sarah back with my Saturday Stash! This week I want to talk about one of my favorite dyers and the somewhat unique way I found her yarn.

I learned about Explorer Knits & Fibers on Instagram during the COVID pandemic and immediately ordered some of her National Parks colorways. It was love at first sight! The colorways are brilliant, and owner Ali is also a big supporter of our parks and has donated a portion of her profits to great organizations like the National Park Foundation.

One of the EKF lines we have in stock is Earthy Sock, which is a fi*****ng weight 100% superwash merino. This wool is left in its natural state, so it has better insulating properties than superwash wool. It also has fewer chemicals! You can feel the difference! However, it is more prone to felting, so you have to be careful when washing. AKA I am handwashing this!

For this yarn, I think it’s time to talk about the Mussleburgh hat by Ysolda. The muted colorways of the Earthy sock are perfect for this double-layer beanie. I would choose one solid and one variegated for the contrast - I’m looking at the Death Valley National Park and Balsamico for a nice purple project (shout out to Michelle for her fave color!). And the best part? This pattern doesn’t require swatching (let’s be real about how much we hate swatching)! The pattern has been updated since its initial release to include 9 gauges, so you can fit the pattern to your yarn.
