Mending by Cassi Payment
I request payment for my services at the time you drop off your clothing. I will gladly take care of those adjustments for you!

“Sewing is a way to mark our existence on cloth: patterning our place in the world, voicing our identity, sharing something of ourselves with others and leaving the indelible evidence of our presence in stitches held fast by our touch.”
-Clare Hunter Your up-front payment for my services is your authorization to work on your clothes and acknowledgement and acceptance of my policies. Amendments to

Completed Alterations
I suggest that everyone take a moment to try on their clothing items prior to leaving my shop, to ensure that you are satisfied with the alterations. If any of my work needs adjusted, this will be the time to let me know so I can adjust. If you are unable to try on the garments at the time of pick up, I suggest you do so as soon as possible on your own. If there are any adjustments that need to be made, call me or come back immediately. After 5 business days (Mon-Sat) I cannot adjust previously completed alterations without charging another service charge. Ironing & Pressing Services
After alterations are complete, I often must steam or press the altered area and stitching to get it to lay properly. This is typical of alterations, but this is the only type of ironing or pressing I will do with my garment. Unfortunately, currently I DO NOT offer ironing, creasing, or other pressing services for your garments, although I plan to in the future. If my items need pressed or creased, you will need to take them to a local cleaners for those services. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Rush Jobs
I do offer rush alterations including same-day, next-day, and two-day service. A few things to keep in mind about rush jobs:
• These are strictly subject to availability. My workload changes on a daily & sometimes hourly basis. For example, if I advise you over the phone/email/text/social media that I can take on a rush alteration, and the item is brought to me hours later that evening, there is a chance that I no longer have the availability to complete my rush job in the time that you need it. Rush alterations are very fluid and can change instantly.
• All rush jobs are subject to a rush fee, no exceptions. The fee varies according to what alteration you need me to make and how soon it needs to be completed. Refunds
I strive for your complete happiness! If you are not happy with my alteration, let me know immediately and I will make it right! I believe with an approach such as that, a refund should not be necessary. However, in the instance that I have not started work on your clothing, I will honor a refund up to 3 calendar days (Mon-Sat) from the date the clothes were dropped off to me. For any clothing that I have already begun alterations on, or it has been 3 calendar days since you dropped the item off, unfortunately I cannot offer a refund. Refunds will be paid in the same way the alterations were paid for initially (Venmo or cash). Refund Fees
• If a refund is requested and it meets the above criteria, the following fees will be deducted from the amount refunded to the client. Rush Alterations
If a refund is requested for a rush alteration, and it meets the above criteria, the rush fee charged is not refundable and will be deducted from the refunded amount. All other charges paid above and beyond the rush fee are eligible to be refunded. For alterations such as hems, taking in, or letting out, an appointment is suggested to ensure proper fitting to your exact measurements. Other than that, if you have multiple items of anything, it is also a good idea to schedule an appointment. For alterations of single items not listed above, an appointment is not necessary as I gladly take drop-offs anytime during listed business hours. If I am not accepting drop offs, it will be posted on the Mending by Cassi page. Picking Up
I hope that you can pick up your alterations as soon as possible so you can enjoy your newly altered items immediately! But I do understand sometimes that it is not possible. I just ask if you are going to be longer than a week or two retrieving your items that you notify me so I can store them separately for you. However, I do ask that, if at all possible, all items are picked up within 30 days of completion as I am not responsible for items left longer than 30 days. Pricing and Quotes
I always try my best to give you an accurate price quote for your items when you email/message/text me, but unfortunately that is not always possible. Everyone’s items & needs are different and are priced accordingly. I can give general pricing information without seeing the item in person, but the only way to get 100% accurate pricing is to bring the item in so that I can look it over and give you a quote.

Opening up this dress was a task and a half 🙂‍↕️ some elements were machine sewable, but most of my alterations were done by hand this time to work with the pleated overlay design element of this bodice. I took the straps up a few inches and tapered the side seams a couple inches as well. It also got a hem, as most of these formal dresses come quite long , with the expectation that they’ll be hemmed to fit. The last slide is the pile of leftovers after all my alterations were done. I’ll show finished garment after she’s picked up 😉

I got to catch up with a friendly face from the past last week when a new client dropped off these two shirts for repairs and alterations. The stud half of a shirt snap had fallen off and been lost, so I pulled out my snap pliers and added a new snap stud. The blue shirt just needed one extra button at the bottom to keep it from flapping open. I hunted around and found a button that was a close match and added a machined buttonhole to the other side. Now it will be secure all the way down the placket 😊

Last week I altered this bridesmaid dress for a young lady who will now be able to walk in her dress without it getting caught under her feet ☺️

I removed 4.5 inches from the bottom on both lining layers and 4 inches from the bottom of the outer chiffon layer, finishing each layer with a narrow baby hem. She also needed the halter taken up, so I marked the amount to be removed while she was wearing it. I then removed the buttons, trimmed off the excess length, and hand stitched the end of the strap closed. Then I sewed the covered buttons back on and the neckline fits perfectly.

We are still in wedding season, and homecoming is right around the corner. Message me to book an appointment if you have formal wear in need of altering!

My sewing student is completing a blouse sewing project for her homeschool sewing course. This project took two months to complete, with 3 hours of instruction per week. We started by learning how to properly take body measurements and choose a pattern size. We then made a mock up of the garment out of plain muslin to test the fit and learn how to make fitting adjustments without cutting into the final fabric. We practiced some hand sewing techniques and learned how to insert piping for this particular project. She is also adding machined buttonholes to the button band. I’m very proud of all of her hard work and dedication to completing this project! And now she has a shirt that fits her perfectly, in fabric and colors and a style she chose herself ☺️

Watch me work 🪡 🧵

Another pair of my husband’s jeans, ripped in the same place as always 😂 This and hoodie pockets coming loose at the corners or a 90 degree tear. This is the best way to repair large rips in high stress areas: machine darning! It’s like re-weaving the fabric that was torn. A denim patch on the inside adds reinforcement to the repair, and matching thread helps to keep the repair inconspicuous.

I can fix your clothes! Message me and I can repair or alter your favorite clothes so you can keep wearing them. Want to make your thrift finds fit like they were made for you? Message me! Do your pants always wear out or rip in the same spots? I can add some reinforcement that will help reduce the damage to your pants so you can keep them in rotation longer 😉

Message Mending by Cassi to set up your next clothing repair or alterations!

You might meet one of these characters when you come visit me in my studio. Penny pup will usually be put outside when I’m expecting visitors because she’s just SO EXCITED YOU’RE HERE! George, your typical orange boy, loves visitors and is very nosey so you’ll probably not get out of here without paying the toll (head scritches, of course). This brings me to the owner of this house, May, who you can peep hiding on the book shelf. She is for looking at. She is not for touching. She does not like people, she doesn’t even like the people who rent this house from her. She usually makes herself scarce when visitors are here, but on the occasion that she makes an appearance, she much prefers to be admired from afar. I work in a pet friendly environment, but only some of the pets are friendly 😉

Penny wanted me to tell you that the clothing rack has some space on it, so it’s a great time to message us to get your clothes fixed!
