Congratulations to Susan and Sid on their 50th anniversary! Susan created this lovely wedding crewel needlework back in 1976 and we recently reframed it for their home. In the 1970’s crewel a very popular type of needlework and we frequently get pieces in to update. We know that Susan and Sid’s family will treasure this for years to come!

I was so excited to receive this fun “Lucy the Elephant” t-shirt today as a thank you. I thought that it would the perfect time to pose with my all time favorite framed “Lucy the Elephant” framed vintage postcard.

For those of you not familiar with Lucy, she is a tourist attraction in Margate, New Jersey built in 1881. She has been lovingly restored and stands over 65 feet tall. She has been a summer home, tavern and hotel. Now she is a landmark at the Jersey shore and definitely worth a visit. The authentic vintage postcard dates back to the early 1900’s and the unique framing design is by Whispering Woods Gallery in Bucks County Pennsylvania.

Who says that you can’t have fun at work? It’s always an adventure to help long time customer Rob of Philadelphia with his framing. He always picks unique framing for his historic Philly home and usually presents us with some type of challenge. We love the radiant Metallic Candy Red frame from Fotiou on this abstract art by artist Igal Fedida. The challenge was to show the message from the artist on the back of the artwork. With an extra piece of glass and a few extra mats it was not a problem.

When we photographed the back Rob accidentally flipped it upside down causing me to think that I positioned the wire in the wrong place. Whew, I was scared for a second! All is good and he loves his new piece of art. Thanks so much Rob!

Here’s a great example of Tru-Vue Museum Glass at work. The Pennsylvania State College (now Penn State) was our Dad’s from 1949. We framed this in the early 1990’s and it has always been in our work room. At that time anti-reflective Museum Glass was not the norm and we framed it with regular glass. This year we decided that it was time to put Dad’s diploma to work to show the effectiveness of Museum Glass. On the bottom you can see the before glass and on the top you can see the Museum Glass. Using anti-reflective glazing is especially important when framing dark mats or art. When you come in to choose custom framing we give you options and will show you relevant examples of the possibilities. Do you have something to custom frame? We are here to help!

The back of the photograph is dated June 1987. That was Whispering Woods Gallery thirty-nine years ago! The art had a lot of mauve, peach, sea foam and gray. Southwest themes were popular. This was pre-internet and we had art catalogs for customers to browse. So much has changed over the years but our commitment to giving you the best has not. We hope to see you soon!

We recently framed this exquisite G. Leger antique reproduction needleart stitched by Kelly of Lansdale. She chose an appropriate French style Marais moulding by Larson Juhl. We glazed it with Tru-Vue Museum glass. Kelly’s cross-stitch is always a joy to frame and we thank her for choosing Whispering Woods Gallery!

Ruled lines look superb on diplomas, vintage maps, botanicals, landscapes and much more. This looks simple but there is forty years of practice in this framer. It’s not just a line-color, thickness, medium, placement and number of lines need to be considered. I’ve used many rulings pens over the years and by far this one is my favorite, thanks to Linda Wassell !
