Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms who made us adventurous ✈️🚌🚊🚕🚞🚢🚟

The last big trip my mom and I took together was to South Africa. What an adventure that was and so much fun. We may not be traveling anymore, but the memories will last a lifetime.

I’m grateful she gave me such a strong sense of wanderlust and that we were able to experience so many places around the world together. Those trips were never just about the destination, they were about the stories, the laughter, and the time we shared along the way.

Back in 2020, I learned there were only two Black-Owned Outdoor Gear Companies. I remember thinking, that can’t be right. But at the time, it was.

When I found out the other one was Seirus, founded by Mike Carey, I felt truly honored to be mentioned alongside a company with that kind of history and longevity. Forty+ years in the outdoor industry is no small thing and they’re still going strong.
Moments like that remind me how rare it still is to see ourselves represented in this space. It also reminds me that being here isn’t accidental, it’s earned. And every year we keep showing up helps make the path a little wider for the founders coming next.

There are so many things I could say about these two.
I met Kesha through Black Girls Run, and Tammira through the Crab Tank pitch competition. I still remember being so nervous during the competition, and even though I was technically competing against Tammira, both she and Kesha showed up with encouragement and support that helped me get through it.
That’s the thing about real community, it’s not competition.
Later, when my cousin needed to sell her mom’s home, the first person I thought about was Tammira. I knew she would guide her with grace, patience, and care, and that kind of trust says everything.
Grateful for women who show up, support, and lead with heart. 🖤
