❗️CUFFS RUN UPDATE: Today, oral arguments were held in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit as Lancaster Conservancy and our partners continue our appeal of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s decision to grant a preliminary permit for a pumped storage facility at Cuffs Run in York County, PA. A decision is anticipated before the end of 2026.
“Today’s oral arguments in our case are a major step forward in our defense of Cuffs Run,” said Fritz Schroeder, Lancaster Conservancy’s President & CEO. “The Conservancy thanks our legal team, partners, neighbors, elected officials, and community members who have resolutely opposed this misguided project. No matter the court’s decision, we remain committed to protecting our natural lands and resources for the benefit of our community and nature — including Cuffs Run.”
The Lancaster Conservancy, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association, Farm & Natural Lands Trust of York County, and Susquehanna National Heritage Area are working together on this appeal. If successful, the appeal could help delay or bring about a permanent end to the Cuffs Run project or any future pumped storage projects at this location.
