Lucy (my girl) and Lauren (my friend) wearing the All Seasons Pinafore in size M-L. I found this draft post from a few years ago โ€ฆ to be honest, I just arrived in Florence Italy and itโ€™s 38 degrees C or 100F and I ran out of puff ๐Ÿซ  to create a new post! But I love this, it reminds me of home .. sending my love to Australia ๐Ÿฅฐ

Lucyโ€™s pinafore is in an old washed out linen I found in the thrift shop (itโ€™s actually mine! I made this to get through COVID lockdowns - dare I mention it๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ) and Laurenโ€™s is in a mustard linen rayon I had in my stash.

The dress has side panel pockets and a front patch pocket.

Make it with or without the raw edge trims and belt. Shorten or lengthen via the straps.

The pattern comes in 4 sizes:
S - M
M - L
L - XL
XL - 3XL

It takes 2.20m (2.40yards) for S to L and 2.40m (2.60yards) for XL -3XL. See the garment and body measurements in my Etsy shop listing โ€ฆ

This is my friend Jodie! She came to help me pack up my life and head off travelling. I asked if sheโ€™d quickly model a few dresses โ€” she kicked off her shoes, popped them on over her yoga outfit, and absolutely nailed it. What a legend! ๐ŸคŽ

This is the Feel Good Dress in patched denim. Size small, three quarter sleeves.

Instead of cutting the bodice and skirt pieces on the fold, I added a 1cm seam allowance and cut each panel in a different denim โ€” dark, medium, medium light and light, all sourced from Spotlight. Same weight, completely different look.

I added a flat band to the sleeve hem (6cm) a yoke across the back (12cm) to pull it all together, and replaced the in-seam pockets with patch pockets.

Patch pocket dimensions for size small:
๐Ÿ“ Cut: 25cm wide x 29cm high
๐Ÿ“ Top hem: 4cm (includes 1cm seam allowance around sides)
๐Ÿ“ Placement: 8.5cm down from empire line on side seam
๐Ÿ“ Move forward 16cm from side seam toward centre front

This dress stayed home when I left ๐Ÿ˜”. Seeing Jody in it reminded me why itโ€™s one of my favourites. ๐ŸคŽ

Part 1: Artsy Smock Dressโ€ฆ. There is nothing quite like the beginning of a new sewing project. Itโ€™s a creative process from the very first step. For me it starts with questions โ€” what garment do I suit right now? Whatโ€™s it for? What feeling am I after? ๐Ÿ˜Š With a changing body I need to know I can fluctuate, feel comfortable, and that whatever fabric or occasion Iโ€™m sewing for โ€” so I know I can choose one of my patterns and it will work for me. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Today I wanted to be inspired. To make one of my own garments in a sewing studio somewhere in the world and wear it while I travel.

There is nothing quite like walking into Michael Levine Fabrics in LA fabric district! You lose yourself in there. Fabric after fabric, possibility after possibility.

And then this. A black African dot. Uneven dots, really lightweight, beautiful drape. I hesitated because I donโ€™t wear black anymore โ€” I used to live in it. But the dots and its light weight make it something else entirely.

This is what the Feel Good Dress looks like on a regular morning.
Tidying the kitchen. Making coffee. Getting on with the day.
This dress reminds me why I sew in the first place. Not for perfection. To feel good in my clothes and in my skin.

Look at how it flows easily not clingy just moves with you ๐ŸคŽ

Comfortable. Easy. Every day.

This one was made for me by my friend Emma in a soft yellow mid-weight linen โ€” lovely drape, a bit of structure, really comfortable. Iโ€™m wearing a size small.

And when the occasion calls for it โ€” lunch with friends, somewhere you want to feel good without trying too hard โ€” it works for that too.

Shape without fuss. Comfort without bulk.

Feel Good Dress pattern โ€” sizes XXS to 2XL and XL to 6XL.

Niagara Falls in my light linen top and a yellow raincoat I did not plan for.

I wore the A-line Pleat Button Top my favourite simple sew box top alternative โ€” keeps the sun off, breezy, not sloppy. Perfect right up until the point youโ€™re standing underneath a waterfall.

Also lost my NASA cap somewhere between the Horseshoe Falls and my hotel ๐Ÿ˜”. If anyone finds it, let me know!

The falls are genuinely one of the most extraordinary things Iโ€™ve ever seen. Worth getting soaked ๐Ÿ˜‚

A-line pleat button top pattern โ€” comes in two size groups XXS to 2XL and XL to 6XL, short sleeves and 3/4 sleeve options ๐ŸคŽ
