It shouldn’t cost more to repair your favourite clothes than to replace them. 🧵
For generations, mending was simply what you did. A “stitch in time saves nine” wasn’t just a saying.
Today, repairing a garment often costs more than buying something new. That means, fewer visits to local tailors and cobblers, fading craftsmanship on our high streets, and perfectly good clothes ending up in landfill far too soon.
France has shown there’s another way. Since launching its government-backed Repair Bonus in 2023, shoppers have received €6–€25 off clothing repairs at the till, helping fund more than 826,000 repairs in the first year alone.
We’re calling on the UK Government to introduce a British Repair Bonus and include textiles in the UK’s Right to Repair framework, making repair more affordable, supporting local repair businesses, and helping more clothes stay in use. 🇬🇧🪡
If you believe Britain should back the people who fix things, not just the people who sell new ones, we’d love your support.
