Heading to the Midwest later this week! My 13-year-old son, Julian, and I are road-tripping to see our family in Wisconsin, and making a stop for a trunk show in Evanston, IL this Saturday. Making another stop in Cleveland on the way home—will share that event later.

I am packing the car with a ton of great stuff, all perfect for right now. So please come out if you’re a Chicago or Cleveland local, and share with friends.

One of the very first pieces I designed under my own name, the Long Shirt, which is really a shirtdress that looks great over pants. And has pockets. The sweetheart seam above the bust came about as an alternative to this more complicated design I was struggling with executing at the time. Some of the best things come to life when I’m trying to solve some design problem.

This was my foundation piece, and 5 years later, it still is. I continue to wear it myself year-round.

Just read about how the sequel to this book, Communion: The Female Search for Love (2002) landed bell hooks on the NYT bestseller list for the first time earlier this year, when JD Vance announced his memoir with a copycat title: Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. It sparked a beautiful grassroots response, a massive “buy-out” campaign launched ahead of Vance’s June 16, 2026 release day. Activists, social media influencers, and the bell hooks Institute urged the public to buy hooks’ book instead of Vance’s to protect her legacy and fix search engine algorithms. Ultimately the backfire created a massive, lasting renaissance for bell hooks’ decades-old work. I love a piece of good news!❤️
