I used to hate AI. Then it caught my web developer stealing thousands of dollars from me. And it made me realize if I don’t adopt it I might go out of business in the next 5 years.

Because in the time I’m churning out just 1 email, my competitors are getting ½ a day of work done.

I spent a week inside both extremes, of AI saving the day, and also creating extra work, and my answer on if I should adopt more AI in my business surprised me.

This week on Substack I’m breaking down
⏳Where AI is actually saving brand owners hours
🤪Where it’s creating chaos and should be skipped
🫖And I’m naming names on that bootcamp disaster.

Just say AI? (make sure to include the ?) and I’ll send you the free article.

A lot of times what people visiting a factory for the first time think is clutter, mess, and sign that the supplier is unprofessional are tools that actually make their sampling and product development process faster.

Just like these color recipe books in the fabric dye lab.

So a little bit of free advice. Try not to judge on your first factory visit.

Your next pair of leggings could literally be made out of thin air.

Wild huh?

It’s air pollution, turned into clothes.

The science has bio feedstock science has been around for a while – but we are just getting to the point where carbon pollution can be captured from the air and turned into clothing.

If you like this type of high-level learning, I hope to see you October 13-14 (TOMORROW) in Munich at PERFORMANCE DAYS, because this just scratched the surface. There’s so much more to learn.

Just say PERFORMANCE and I’ll send you the invite for a free ticket.

The most hated fiber on the internet was never supposed to be what it became.

When polyester was first invented, it actually cost more than cotton. And, it wasn’t created for fast fashion, it was created as an easy-care fabric, for busy people. Meaning, you could throw it in the dryer with zero wrinkles and no ironing needed. Plus permanent press pleats that never need re-pressing were all of a sudden possible saving tons of money on dry cleaning bills.

But then things took a turn…

Maybe it’s because I spent years studying the science and working in the industry developing top perfuming products - but I just don’t think polyester is as evil as everyone on the internet whines about.

Is it overused in fast fashion? Yes absolutely, and that’s a problem.

But are there high-quality polyesters that make garments perform better and last longer? Also yes.

So let me leave you with this. If you have a cotton shirt but never wear it because it’s always wrinkled and you don’t have time to iron it, but you have a polyester shirt you wear multiple times a week because it’s easy: what’s the more sustainable thing?

Come join me as I take you inside a fabric mill to show you French Terry fabric becomes fleece fabric.

What’s cool about understanding this is that brands can double up on their fabrics without having to increase increases because one can become the other!

Is Quince a scam or a deal?

Here’s the math they don’t put on the website. A $100 shirt costs $20 to make. Sell it yourself and you keep $80. Wholesale it to Bloomingdale’s for $45 and the profit goes down to $25.

So cutting out the middleman should mean cheaper prices for everyone, right?

That was the whole D2C promise. But it doesn’t actually work that way.

I’m breaking down the whole wholesale system this week on my Substack.

Just say WHOLESALE, and I’ll send over the full article – happy learning!

Everyone thinks polyester means plastic from oil. Well, not anymore.

The buzzword is biobased synthetics, and they’re letting brands
make petroleum-free polyester and nylon from plants instead.

But here’s the part a lot of people are left wondering - are these
fibers actually better, or is it clever marketing?
If you want to hear it from the industry experts who are actually
making this stuff, PERFORMANCE DAYS in Munich, Germany this Oct 13-14.

It’s two full days of high level fiber science learning, plus hundreds of suppliers you can talk to directly.

Say PERFORMANCE and I’ll DM you a free ticket.

I haven’t seen anyone using this fabric yet. So if you are looking for something to stand out this might be it.

It’s a modern take on a vintage 80s iridescent fabric. The cool part is instead of a woven it’s actually a knit construction.

Have you seen this? Would you try it?

Temperatures are dropping and this Free People is one of the most added to cart fall fleeces on the market.

But is it worth the price?

I’m breaking down the materials, garment construction and everything about how it was made so you can learn for yourself what you’re really buying.

Plastic in fashion is a topic that most people feel very strongly about – but sadly they often know nothing about.

And the plastic landscape is getting more confusing as biosynthetics enter the market.

Here is everything you need to know, and if you want to learn more, just say PLASTIC and I’ll send over the full article.
