The Vision Council Foundation Expands "See What Matters" Initiative with New Back-to-School Toolkit

The Vision Council Foundation launched “See What Matters – Empowering Education,” its 2026 back-to-school eye health campaign encouraging families to prioritize comprehensive eye exams and healthy vision habits as students return to the classroom.

This year's campaign places special emphasis on behaviors and conditions that can impede learning, including digital eye strain and dry eye from screen use, as well as the prevalence of childhood myopia (nearsightedness), a condition affecting roughly 30% of children and adolescents in the U.S. today.

Some of us are creatures of habit when it comes to colors we prefer. For those who tend to gravitate toward more traditional frame colors such as black, blue or brown, encourage them to step outside their color comfort zone and suggest a neutral shade of green for fall.

In our latest collaboration with The Accessories Council, the new issue of Ac EYE x 20/20 celebrates iconic designers, distinctive brands and frames that are true works of art. The inspirations span styles and price points, offering plenty of reasons to think of optical frames and sunglasses as a wardrobe of their own.

Sunglasses are a wonderful place to start experimenting. Try a new color, a different silhouette or an unexpected lens tint. Give yourself permission to choose something beyond your usual pair. A small change can open your eyes to a whole new look.

To learn more about ILLA Eyewear’s latest collection and campaign, we spoke to Cathy Kaye, head of product design and development at ClearVision Optical.

Jillian Urcelay: IILLA’s new collection introduces thinner profiles, lighter colorations and refined proportions. How did you balance making the frames more wearable and lightweight while maintaining the bold, distinctive personality that defines the brand?

Cathy Kaye: We didn’t want to lose what people already love about ILLA, so it was about finding new ways to express that personality. We played with new geometries and softened some of the angles. The colors are still interesting but more curated. Even in the thinner profiles, there are details that make the frames feel special, whether it’s an unexpected color combination, a sculpted element or a decorative wire core. It creates more appeal for the collection while maintaining the distinctive character that defines ILLA.
