Spring is taking its own sweet time arriving in midcoast Maine… no rushing Mother Nature! But the few crocus’ that have sprouted in my garden gives me hope. Enjoy all that Spring brings!

My winter knitting project was this adorable sweater for a little friend. I don’t knit fast and only when I take time to sit down, which is not often. But I got this done before he grew out of it. The pattern is an oldie but goodie, from 2005 by Cottage Creations. I knit the sweater in my hand dyed “Clover”, fine merino DK weight yarn. The yarn was dyed with weld that I grew & over dyed in indigo to produce that lucious spring green. Now I’m out of commission once again. I had a reverse shoulder replacement this week as the repair that was done last summer did not work. It’s been 11 months from my initial injury and I look forward to having all of this behind me soon. Then I can dye some yarn, weave some blankets & pick up my knitting!

Folks have been asking to get a glimpse in my studio as I prepare for the Rhinebeck show. Here’s what my work space looks like this week. Soon I’ll be putting labels on the freshly dyed yarns and packing things up. Come visit me in Barn 35 Booth 2 up on the hill. I think this is my 26th year at the show! How time flies!

It has been quite a summer for me. I spent 6 weeks with my right arm immobilized in a monster sling after shoulder surgery. This came after I wore a splint on the same arm for wrist surgery. All from an unfortunate fall. I was so limited in what I could do which was very hard for me. I was able to watch my dye gardens grow & bloom, and managed to harvest flowers with one hand. And today I finally started washing & mordanting yarn for dyeing! It’s been a long road but I’m getting there!

My gardens are blooming! The peonies are spectacular! I just returned home after spending two weeks in Greece and I’m so happy I didn’t miss the peonies. The Baptista,(false indigo), is also a favorite of mine. Love summer in Maine!
