One of the most asked questions we get is if our deodorant has baking soda in it, which is immediately followed by the customer telling us that they have a sensitivity to baking soda. But guess what - we all do! If you’ve tried a natural deodorant and gotten a rash like this, the amount of baking soda in the formula is wreaking havoc on the acid mantle in your arm pits, leaving your skin irritated and red. The amount of baking soda is the key to a safe, effective, and non-irritating formula. This is not to be confused with the detox period when switching from an aluminum-based antiperspirant to a natural deodorant, where your armpits purge a buildup of aluminum and toxins, resulting in increased sweating, stronger odor, and - you guessed it - irritation. This period only last a few weeks at most before the microbiome normalizes so if natural deodorants “don’t work for you”, a little patience will go a long way!
