The House of Cooee Quilting seems to get busier with each passing month so it’s good to stop and acknowledge the achievements. The biggest personal one was that I completed the single bed version of ‘Second Chance Circles’ using my precious Kaffe Fassett stash. Super happy with how it turned out! Pattern launch happening next week. 🤗

Then of course this Kangaroo Quilter immediately bounced onto the next project - a baby quilt for the little lads. I knitted myself some new slippers, got our logo printed onto mugs, and quilted some truly awesome client quilts.

And now? I am off to enjoy a break. Happy weekend to you all. 💖

There has been no shortage of gorgeous quilts in my life of late. This week’s Quilt Queen is Joyce Dooley and I am completely besotted with ‘The Judy Quilt’ that she has made using Tilda’s ‘Chic Escape’ and ‘Daisyfield’ fabric ranges. This one is all about showcasing the fabrics but its subtle interlocking frames are perfect for bringing everything together.

I chose a baroque-style quilting pattern - a multitude of flowing leaves, curls and florals - but with a neutral thread for a ‘barely there’ finish. 💖

Today’s Quilt Queen is Lily Oliffe and she truly is the Queen of Queens…about to turn 95 and still producing beautiful quilts. Pictured is her version of ‘Flowerville’ - by Rosalie Dekker Designs - that garnered second place at the Yeppoon Show. She has produced 9 intricate stitcheries surrounded by beautiful Dresden Plates. I love her use of variegated threads in the stitcheries and the whole quilt is one of whimsical wonder.

I tried to keep that whimsy going with my quilting - pretty flowers with lots of curl and sunburst spokes to make the whole plate pop! Her daughter Leigh is now the proud owner. Lucky girl! 💝

Quilt Queen for the week goes to Marlene Delzoppo for this fabric riot. I adore everything about this quilt - its design, the colours, the sentiments expressed, the sheer joy of it! The pattern is called ‘Dear Daughter’ by designer Sherri Noel of Rebecca Mae Designs. And you are going to have to suspend your disbelief when I tell you that this is Marlene’s first quilt. 😳

Her first words to me were ‘Don’t look too closely’…what??…I am absolutely going to disobey you Marlene because this is a visual feast to be savoured one block at a time. Enjoy the meal Everyone. ☺️

P.S. We will have a video tour on Monday.

Our Quilt Queen this week is girlfriend Betty Rixon who has made the masterpiece before you now. 💖 The quilt is called ‘Patchwork of Crosses’ - designed by Lucy Boston in the 1950s - and involves a whopping 5400 pieces hand stitched using the English paper piecing technique! 😶

Betty began this marathon in 2018 and can now finally enjoy the fruits of her considerable labour. All of those seams made for a hefty top and I wish I had weighed it. Every block had fussy-cut features and it revealed a treasure trove of delights as I quilted it. Definitely one to view up close. I will put up some videos next week for you to enjoy.

Quilting-wise: a soft sweet floral seemed to best capture this quilt’s old-world vibe.

We have been packed to the rafters in the House of Cooee Quilting as our Kiwi family and friends escape their freezing temps across the ditch. And my mate Brenda has finally finished her ‘Feathered Star’ by Judy Niemeyer for hubby Allan.

Brenda comes to sew (and drink 😋) with me each year and over the last 2 visits she made this beauty. It was a challenging quilt but when you see the finished product, I think the stitching, unstitching, re-stitching, cursing, unstitching, re-stitching…you get my drift…was totally worth it. Driven to drink? Yes…but then, we don’t really need an excuse for that!! 🙃
