You'll have to excuse me for being a bit slow to share these photos! They’re from our final Art Trail mini-workshop at Square Edge, where we spent the morning weaving mug rugs as a fun introduction to the world of weaving.

To be fair, there was so much chatting and laughter going on that most of the mug rugs were destined to be finished off and trimmed at home! 😂

There really is nothing I enjoy more than bringing together a lovely bunch of people, sharing my love of weaving and helping them discover the joy of making something beautiful with their own two hands 🧡

Slow Woven Textile Studio is usually open to the public on the first Sunday of each month, but unfortunately we won’t be opening on Sunday 1 November, as I’ll be away attending a funeral.

The good news is that the next open day will be Sunday 6 December, followed by Sunday 3 January and the first Sunday of every month after that!

Thanks for understanding, and I look forward to welcoming you back to the studio soon. 🧡

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love beautiful vintage looms and old-school weaving equipment… but I also LOVE my new 3D-printed Whirligig!

It’s an electric skein winder from Daedalus Spinning Wheels, and it is SO FLIPPIN’ COOL!

And it saves me sooooooo much time hand winding skeins! 🧡

Look, I hate to skite but... how beautiful is this wool ready for this morning’s weaving workshop?!

The wool I dye for my workshops is my chance to really play with colour. Unlike my own weaving, which is inspired by the colours of our beautiful native plants, I don’t have a particular colour palette in mind for the workshop wool. I just get to throw colours in the dye pot and see what happens!

Gotta say, this is one of my all-time favourites. 🧡

If you are local and curious about what the workshops involve, I'm running a workshop this weekend, and you're welcome to pop in on Sunday to see what we're up to.

On Saturday, everyone has their heads down learning, but by Sunday we're well into the swing of things and even have some weaving to show off. It's a lovely chance to see the looms in action and get a feel for what a weekend of weaving is all about.

You'll find us in the function room at The Herb Farm from 9.30am–4pm. We break for lunch between 1 and 2pm, so please avoid that hour if you're planning to visit.

Join me on the Art Trail Manawatū this Saturday and Sunday! My Ashhurst studio will be open 10am - 4pm daily.

I’ll be joined by my Dad, rural artist Graham Christensen, and my uncle, surrealist painter John Christensen. So you’ll get to meet them too - and see where my creativity (and other qualities 🙃) come from.

🚗 Finding the studio: Glenburn Road winds up a hill, and number 84 is right at the very end. Look for the big orange sign at the gate!
