I've been selling so much work lately I can't keep up. Seriously, the last few throw blankets have been sold straight off the loom - and I even sold one that was still wet after wet finishing! OMG! 🙃 It's so fun, but I also seriously need a chance to play catch up!

Sooooo, if you were wondering if I have an Open Day this Sunday (because you wouldn't have seen it advertised), the answer is yes 🧡 The studio is always open on the first Sunday of the month 10am - 4pm, but this month is going to be super low key.

There's not much of my work on the gallery walls but you're welcome to come and keep me company while I put a warp on my huge Nitschke floor loom - and of course the table looms are set up if you want to have a go at weaving yourself and make a cute mug rug to take home.

*In this photo I am winding a warp. The warp is the vertical threads that run from the front to the back of the loom, through which you weave your weft (horizontal threads).

Two of my lovely nephews came and helped me in the studio this weekend!

At my upcoming Learn to Weave workshops we will be using New Zealand made Ashford 4-shaft table looms from Ashford Wheels & Looms, so Maximus and Stirling came to help me get started putting them together.

The boys were a joy to work with and it was actually pretty straight forward with clear instructions and just a few tools. We now have three completed, with just five to go and plenty of time before the first workshop on the 23rd/24th of May!

Learn to Weave Workshops - Bookings Now Open!

Spend a creative weekend learning the art of loom weaving with Manawatū-based weaver Natasha Christensen of Slow Woven Textile Studio. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of working with a four-shaft table loom while creating your own beautiful handwoven shoulder wrap to take home.

Set in the peaceful, rural surroundings of The Herb Farm in Ashhurst (15 minutes from Palmerston North), this two-day course is perfect for beginners. You’ll gain the skills and confidence to begin your weaving journey, from preparing a warp and dressing the loom through to weaving your finished piece using New Zealand wool and other natural fibres in your choice of hand-dyed colours.

There are three workshops to choose from:
23rd & 24th May
20th & 21st June
25th & 26th July

If you’ve visited me in the studio you would have seen the paintings of not just my dad Graham Christensen - New Zealand Artist, but also my uncle John Christensen Art.

This Saturday the 18th of April uncle John is teaching a workshop called ‘The Journey – Not the Destination’ at the Feilding and District Art Society. It will be thought provoking, inspiring and will totally move the needle on your art practice. It’s 1pm-4pm and (thanks to some sponsorship) is free! All the details are below:

I've had lots of super-cute messages about the wraps that were in my recent Open Day video. Awww... thank you - you guys are so sweet to send me so many lovely DMs about how much you love my work 🧡

This is the Kātote Buttoned Wrap, inspired by the beautiful soft native tree fern. It's hand woven in NZ wool and the buttons are made from coconut shell.

The wool is a combination of mill spun and hand spun, and it was all dyed before weaving in a big pot in my studio.

You can buy it at my 'Slow Sundays in the Studio' Open Day tomorrow - yes, Easter Sunday. I'll be open 10am - 4pm.
