On this date in 2017 I opened the doors to Nanna Bangles at 4 Harbour Street, next to the Victorian Wardrobe. 2017 was a rough year for me: I had a catastrophic landslide into the side of the 1880s cottage I'd lovingly restored (just days away from the first open home); and I had to make the tough call to leave the job I loved at Waitaki District Council due to debilitating fibromyalgia symptoms.

Luckily I'd heard that this space was up for lease for just $65 per week.... so it wasn't a huge leap of faith, just an affordable one 😅

By August 2018 I was running out of room and moved next door, into the front of the Woolstore at 6 Harbour Street. Sharing space with bales upon bales of wool (and a running forklift) sure brought an interesting topic for discussions, and there were many folks who couldn't handle it and walked straight back out 🐑

One of my favourite parts was meeting the musicians who would pop in before or after their gigs at Grainstore Gallery, opening upon request for Reb Fountain and her band... and selling clothing to the people who were filming The Power of the Dog for Netflix (and I got to be an extra too!)

I made so many wonderful friends, whom I miss dearly, and this time will always have a special place in my heart... who knows, maybe someday I'll be a bricks and mortar store again!
