• A N N O U N C E M E N T • The amount of consignment coming in continues to be our biggest hurdle as the only consignment shop in the immediate area. As we continue to try to get a handle on all that we have coming our way we are making some changes to our payout policy, and are sharing this in an effort to be transparent with our consignors, both new and old.

When you drop off items for consignment during the months of June, October and November we will be offering Shop Credit as the only form of payout.

When you drop off during the months of August + September we will be accepting (primarily fall + winter items) with both cash + shop credit as payout options.
•••••
As always, we will not be accepting any drop offs during the months of July + December.
•••••
Please note that payout options are determined by the month that items are dropped off, not the month they are picked up.

Our team appreciates your understanding and patience as we work to resolve the ongoing issue of managing the influx of consignment we have inherited over the past few years. We are so thankful for our consignors who are the ones who make it possible for us to offer such an incredible selection of secondhand treasures to our community. The issue we are facing is one of sheer quantity and the budget constraints of a small business mixed with a real desire to serve our community well for many years to come!

• G I F T • This watercolor of OUR SHOP is one of the best gifts I’ve ever been given. Honestly, it came on a day when I was feeling some big “having a small business is dumb” energy. It stopped me in my tracks and let me look at what we’ve built with fresh eyes!! The hugest thank you to .hixon for such a beautiful treasure.

• R E M I N D E R • sometimes it seems like some systems are so big that it doesn’t really matter if or how we interact with them. It can feel like any purchase we make (or don’t make) doesn’t really matter because the fast fashion machine will exist whether we support it or not.

But here is the very important thing…we can still opt out of systems we disagree with. We don’t have to compromise our beliefs on things like protecting the earth and child labor just because they are available to us and “everybody else” shops there.

So this is your reminder that you have free will, and the way you spend your money is a vote for what you want in the world. Don’t be discouraged, instead feel empowered to shop thoughtfully and to be intentional about where you spend your dollars.

• O R I G I N A L • in 2014 on a trip to England with my mom + sisters I fell in love with the British charity shops. Unlike US thrift + secondhand shops the charity shops were small and curated collections of secondhand clothes + shoes. It made for a really pleasant boutique shopping experience and I knew that we needed to try and replicate that with the Fancy Unicorn, here in Elizabethtown.

This week I’m just getting back from a very similar trip, this time we’re 12 years into our little shop and I left feeling excited once again with some fresh ideas and a new appreciation for just how far we’ve come, we couldn’t have gotten here without YOU!!

• Q U A L I T Y • It used to be that people shopped secondhand to save money (a great reason!) but more and more people are shopping secondhand for the quality that seems to suddenly be missing in newly produced clothing, even from legacy brands. Fully lined dresses + skirts, natural fibers, and quality finishes + details are now bringing a whole new population of shoppers to the secondhand community.
